London Traffic

This was in response to this comment:

My point was that NOx gasses pollution - which is what the London ULEZ is meant to tackle - is equally affected - or possibly even more affected - by cars not registered to keepers in the London area.

In this context, the fact that most of the London registered cars where already ULEZ complaint even before the ULEZ was applied, does not mean that we won't see a reduction of NOx gasses pollution in London since ULEZ came into force.
I might be wrong here and apologise if I am, but I think Dippo was attempting to make a jocular reply in the same vein as several previous off topic posts, but it fell rather flat.

Good point well made about visiting cars, ULEZ introduction and reduced gas pollution, something that really hadn't occurred to me.

@jodyone1
Agreed, all good points and fair enough.

In the specific instance here though, those awful adjacent paths are brand new, lit, painted and 10x better than the pot holders and drain covered roads they clog up.
And, yes 1.5m berth which I try to give them (to avoid scratches on my car my also), but then some of the terwats coast up the inside of my car when I am waiting at lights or in traffic making me break the law (FFS!)

Yes ordinary people ride bikes these days and not weirdos, but when tax paying motorists have had some of that tax spent to create said cycle paths, the ungrateful cyclists could use them!
Never understood this sort of anti cycling rhetoric. Would you rather the cyclists used their cars instead? Most cyclists own cars as well you know.
Anyhoo you should give cycling a try @fabes . It is great fun and the funny thing with cyclists is they are actually nice to each other when they are out and about on the roads, the complete opposite to car drivers.

Don't think, most of the posts are anti cyclists. Don't mind cyclists at all. It's just some can wind drivers up. With some of the stuff they get up to. But equally Driver's can be a pain in the @rse, too.
But I will say, Bradley Wiggins has a bloody lot, to answer for. 😉🙂👍

I used to drive in central London a bit until 10 years ago, you do get used to it, however, the tedium of going nowhere for hours on end is something I don’t miss at all.
When I made my living as a white van man, the only saving grace about having a delivery round in London was that I only did half the mileage compared with that of a round out in the sticks.
But it took 3 times as long.

I agree most posts on here are not anti cycling but i was responding to a post that was overtly anti the cyclist.
Imho motorists who complain about cyclists taking up the road etc etc are just not very good at driving. Maybe they should consider taking some advanced driver training to learn the benefits of anticipation whilst behind the wheel.

That's the problem.........with many cyclists its impossible to anticipate anything they might do!!! Common issues like riding two abreast in a busy area so cars cant get by and completely ignoring the queue building up behind them......cycling in single file....yet too close together so you have no choice but to over take them both at the same time.....which requires a bigger over taking space.....are the two the get me annoyed. Also most of them dont seem to own lights....let alone switch them on at dusk!! I cycle myself....a bit.....Id like to think no one could accuse me of these things.......just use a little common sense.

Yeah, as a cyclist myself, the two abreast thing drives me nuts.

It's always the MAMILs, though. Normal cyclists don't do it. But they're not taking part in some sort of TdF cosplay ritual.

Cycling on today's roads is nuts
Have you seen how people drive! 😱

And as above, not anti cycling just the minority (though it feels like majority) who don't play fair or their part and ride two abreast, jump red lights even zebra crossings, sail up the inside of static cars and don't use the bleepin cycle lanes, built with money that could have been put to other (better?) use

But then we could say worse about other drivers (none on here obvs....) ;)

Im doing 36kms a day now on my commute.

I ride through areas with new cycle lanes and they’re more dangerous than the roads.

In a lot of places around Kings Cross and Camden Town the cycle lane will run behind a bus shelter meaning I’ve got to look out for some half blind old Doris with her trolley walking from the pavement to the shelter to get on the bus.

The bus lanes themselves are awash with grit, gravel, broken glass and leaves concealing loose drain covers and other ironmongery.

The standard of driving is awful. I can’t figure out why drivers don’t use their vehicles hands free function.
Golders Green is the most dangerous place in London to ride a bike. Take your eyes off the Previa and you’re dead.

I confess I don’t do much driving in busy cities so I can’t pass comment either way. But I must say that around these parts the cyclists (and there are many) don’t behave at all like some being described here. Also have their flashing lights day or night. Maybe that’s because of the rural area?

I’m almost in awe of their commitment to such a fit and healthy hobby/passion. Puts my lazy slob lifestyle to shame. Good on them. 👌

I doff my cap to you Darrell, 36ks is beyond admirable and I trust the fitness serves you well, but for all the reasons you cite above you're as mad as a box of frogs.

And we haven't widened the scrutiny to e scooters.

Privately owned E Scooters and fast E bikes without pedals?....well they are just plain illegal to use in public spaces inc roads and pavements....end of really.

I sometimes cycle through Regents Park around 6.30am. Several clubs use the outside circle and tbf they’re the most law abiding cyclists I’ve come across. The looks of disdain if you jump the lights is scary.

My son competes in time trials throughout the country, so you'll rarely see him riding two abreast with anyone else. He recently achieved second place in the annual Classic Series, so it's unlikely you'd be stuck behind him either! But he's very much a MAMIL.

I cycle on my own. 🙁🙁

The England cricket team’s coach was stuck in traffic on the way to the Oval this morning. So they all finished their journey on Lime e-bikes.

The West Indians were also stuck in traffic. They didn’t choose an alternative, so they arrived late. The match was delayed by 30 minutes.

This illustrates the difference between causation and correlation
