Hi

We have a 71 plate 350 GLE 350d premium +. When I reverse and put left hand lock on there are loud bangs coming from the wheel area. This appears to be only when there is cold weather.

We advised Mercedes Benz at Carlisle last week and they advised that there were 3 or 4 other owners that have advised the same.

They advised that when the weather is cold that the tyres start slipping and they advised that we should use bredstein all season tyres.

I find this rather annoying as I paid about £1200 on new continental tyres only 4 months ago as per recommended tyre for this car.

The car is dangerous to drive and is slipping across the lanes and as for driving in rain I can’t go over 40 mph as I am crapping myself

Any other users heard of this “ wheels slip when the weather is cold “ I have heard of wrong type of leaves on the railways but this is something else

There has been a few complaints of crabbing issues but this is normally when travelling really slowly.

You should not feel unsafe in your car unless something else is going on and should certainly not slip across lanes.

Hello
I’ve got GLE 400d premium+ .
I’ve got the same problem since yesterday. When I am reversing out of my driveway on the full right lock there is a loud clunky noise, like the tyre is sleeping, feeling like you hitting the kerb or something like this.
The noise wasn’t there last week when the temperature outside was a bit high.
Today was about 8 degrees and the noise is still there.
The car is only 4k on the clock 72 plate.
I don’t know what to do….

Hi

Well I dare not drive on the motorway with my issues especially in the rain. Drove to Leeds last Monday morning and nearly lost it on the motorway.

I had to follow the lorries at 40 mph because I was scared stiff and an avoided whenever I could crossing into the middle lane as when I turned the steering right I was not completely in control of the car.

Rather gutted that we stayed with Merc after many years instead of going for the Macan S.

Older model Mercedes have been nothing but super reliable however, it I believe that we are ow the era of being Guinea pigs for advancement’s of new technology.

It’s the times we are living in

I’ve just been on the A1M to London .I’ve got no issues with the stability control on the car to be honest.
It’s just the clunky noise only when reversing.
The car accelerates as usual no issues when crossing lanes etc … stability is absolutely fine .

That's got absolutely nothing to do with crabbing, that need investigating as soon as.

Hi

Agree that this needs investigation and I am booked in this Tuesday to get to the bottom of things at Mercedes.

Without knowing for sure I do get the feeling that the 2 issues are connected though , I could be wrong

What the main dealership said about the issue?

Hello
The weather is a bit warm today and there is no issue with the car. The car is reversing on the full lock left or right without any clunky noises. Everything was absolutely fine and smooth.

The was checked from the main dealership todayas well.No issues….
They advised me for a winter/ all season tyres which should reduce the tyre skipping on the cold weather conditions….
