Hi guys.
I have a 2.3 8v w201
I'm looking to swap the motor out with a m104 3.2.
I need a detailed outline on the conversion please.

All help will be appreciated

Thanks
Naushad

What is it you want to know? It's fairly straight forward to do, the m104 is a bolt in swap. The only complication is if you want a manual gearbox behind it.

You will need to start by replacing the slam panel with one from a 2.6. And also the bottom rad mountings need to be cut out and swapped for 2.6 ones, among some other cutting and modding that would need to be done to get the longer engine to fit.

OK problems I've had thus far is the sway bar seems to be very close and the sump hits the subframe/crossmember and doesn't allow the engine to go back into the transmission. And the mounts seem a bit far away so it doesn't appear to be bolt in.

Is this swap at all possible without fitting the 2.6 parts?

Unfortunately not. MB had to do a lot of cutting and modding to shoehorn the inline 6 into the 190. Most who do the M104 conversion start out with the 2.6.

The 2.6 slam panel allows the engine to sit further forward and also allows for the much bigger radiator needed.

This thread from the 190 forum shows what is needed to convert a 4cyl W201 chassis into a 6cyl.

Unfortunately the w201 2.6 is rare in south Africa
