Hi there, first post just thought I’d share a few shots of the work I’ve just finished on my intake manifold to kick start the bottom up engine rebuild I’m about to undertake myself.
Intake had the usual ‘porous’ magnesium corrosion throughout, the sump, throttle plate bracket and the throttle plate itself ( typical ). Managed to clean down, sand blast, prep JB Weld, epoxy prime and metal protect. As for the outside, cleaned, prepped, epoxy primed and then painted.

Love the bronze gold colour mate well done looks epic !!!
Thank you mate! I’m real happy with it, the cam covers will be going the same colour too, as well as the strut brace and maybe some other small details, and then the rest will be black. Never wanted to have to be rebuilding my engine but I’m hoping it will be kinda fun. I’ll upload a shot of my car below!

Looking good:thumb:

What caused the need to rebuild the engine?

Thanks mate! Well was short on time, so gave it to a regular garage to fit a new crankshaft pulley, in the process they broke a couple hose fittings and cracked my rad, sent me on my way and on the motorway it went a dumped all its coolant, before I’d realised what was going on, it was overheating and the head gasket blew, possibly a ring too. Was a cash job so got no legal come back.

Jeez what a sorry tale:mad:
Are the garage washing their hands of any responsibility? The fact you paid with cash shouldn't absolve them of their shoddy workmanship and the resultant financial cost to you. I'd take it further if they won't play ball.

That's an amazing piece of work. It would be great if you could take us through the full process. I am getting my new C123 to a mechanically sound state but thereafter want to make it aesthetically pleasing to look at.

Thank you kind sir! More than happy to assist in whatever you’d like to know.

Mate love your work.. I'm hoping you can help were everyone else can't, I have snapped the vacuum line clip going in on the back of my manifold, just under the PCV valve, and a prior mechanic broke the brake booster fitting attached to the manifold, as you must remove to paint, can you help me understand how to remove and replace. Called Mercedes and was told it has to be purchased with the complete manifold. I have a spare complete manifold with the fitting in good shape, but I'm scared to remove them as there doesn't seam a clear way to remove...mate I'm happy to send some cash your was as I respect people for the help, if you can help much appreciated. From Down Under...

This thread might be of some help, the chap was able to use a make shift fitting from a Mercedes Sprinter. 👍

What a great job.
How is it holding up the paint?
What paint did you use?
I just took my Intake manifold apart for cleaning and inspection of the throttle body plate and its in need of repair also.
Thinking I'll follow your lead on this repair.
