Hi. When I switch my engine on it tells me to visit workshop and malfunction electrical consumers switched off. Then when I drive it keeps bleeping at me telling me to stop and that my battery/alternator not working therefore breaks are defective??? The car still drives perfectly tho. Iv checked and both batterys and there charging at 14.6 v so I think the alternator works fine. I've also replaced the small battery in the front.... Also Iv checked that the cut off relay and that's fine. Iv also replaced the battery control module. The only thing I have not changed is the big battery in the boot but the engine starts fine so I didn't think there was a problem. Both battery's sit at 12.6 v too witch I believe is good?????? Please help me some1 as I'm out of idears.
Thanks Jon

Its the big battery in the boot that needs charging. Have you left the car for an extended period?

Yes I use the car on an everyday basis for long periods and have done for the past two years

Are you seeing the 12.6v from a multi meter attached to the boot battery or are you seeing the voltage from the voltage readout on the dash?

Float voltage is not an accurate indicator. You need to check the battery under heavy load. Do it whilst cranking or take it to a garage that can do a proper load test. Many do it for free if they have a chance of selling you a new battery.

The fancy testers can give you a percentage of life left in the battery.

Even with a 12.6V float voltage the battery may only have as little as 30% supply capacity remaining.

Ok great. That's my next step. It is saying 12.6 on the battery in the boot but I have not done a load test. I did take it to halfords to do a load test but they couldn't do it for some reason. I'll get that done tomorrow tho. Could the battery be ****ty then but still start the car straight away ???

Yes there are two battery's one for starting under the bonnet and a consumer battery in the rear. Seriously charge that battery and then get it tested.

Right... Iv had the battery checked by the boy in halfords and it says the battery is fine but on the cranking power is only showing 704a on 1 of the cells when the others are showing 760????

Which battery did you get checked? This one?

I replaced the other 1 under the bonnet too
