Hey everyone,

How do I locate and unplug the MAS/MAF on my W208 CLK320 to test and see if it makes any difference to the responsivness and fuel economy.

Any pointers or pictures would be fantastic !

Thanks so much,

Ben

Thanks so much Malcolm,

All I need to do now is figure out where in my engine bay that picture is actually from . . . I'm a bit of a beginner at this just in case you didnt guess !

Any ideas on how I unplug the thing to do this test ?

Thanks

Hi Ben, There is a lead and plug that goes into the side of the MAF just squeeze the catch and it comes of. The inlet side of the engine is on the left when standing at the front

Thanks Malcolm !

Just done the test and all is spot on. I knew sort of knew there wasn't going to be a problem but you know how it is when you want to have a tinker and try something out !

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

Ben

if you take it off it is supposed to affect the ride. if not then it is knackered and running on default codes

Hi,

After reading this thread a couple of days ago, I parked up at the supermarket, came back and decided to unplug the lead from the MAF to see what effect it has. Started engine and it sounded really weird, like a really loud whirring noise similar to noise of aircraft jet engine (it was actually quite loud), so decided not to drive in case i screwed anything up. After I plugged lead back in and re-started car, it sounded fine again!

Just looking into the MAF thing cos of slight over-revving, lack of power and hesitation.....the usual. But I replaced MAF about 5-6 months ago with Bosch OEM replacement and the MB cant find anything on the STAR diag either!

Any Idea's?

Feels like car is only running on half the cylinders sometimes (well, most of the time). Because of the sometimes late/early shifting, i thought it may have been a gearbox issue, but i dont think so now ATF all checked ok. May try replacing plugs soon-ish.

Basically, have to kickdown to get any decent pickup out of the car a lot of the time. Even then, sometimes it isn't a smooth pick-up or feels 'restricted'. When I replaced MAF about 6 months ago, I replaced filter with K&N element too.

Using a K & N you could have oiled up the MAF,, unplug it,,ignore the noise and try it

no, none, but could you let me know the Bosch part number, and contact for a reasonable supplier ?

Any Bosch service center knows the number and is ½ the price of MB

Malcolm, are Bosch & Febi parts any better than MB? I have a Bosch dealer closeby and he also stocks stuff from Febi. Have to change the wiper blade asap ...

Get a bosh blade. MB Blade are made by Bosch as are some air mass sensors etc.

All Bosch components supplied to Bosch for MB have both a MB part number and a Bosch part number, when you buy from Bosch it may well only have the Bosch number, it is the same thing but much cheaper,, also note that bosch charge roughly ½ what MB take for labour

Aha, thanx! How about Febi? Ever heard of them or used their products?
