Hello

Car had from news 2016 GLE 250d AmgLine, mles fraction over 15.k. FMSH, lat serviced A service
via MG in July and covered 400/500 miles since. One owner/driver

We went out this morning and car gearing felt different I thought it was the cold weather.
I drive carefully and steadily, noted revs higher checked it was not in sports mode and it was not.
Noted unable to up gear via flappy. Stopped car, restarted, working ok for a minute or two, then the same.
Did this twice. Also noted kickdown not responding and noted when revs go higher engine sounds strained, the flappy paddle does take car up a gear but not show this on the dash IE, showing M3/4/5/3/etc but showing D1/2/3/4/etc but it will not flappy paddle down.

Slowing down as soon as foot off the accelerator, its like car is braking.

The car recently had Nox sensor replaced about 200/300 miles ago via MB outside warranty
and was driving well. I've taken out an aftermarket warranty after the Nox sensor incident.

I'm guessing this gearbox is used in the popular E and C class? Does anyone recognise the problem?
I though a software update required but can't be as the car has always gone via MB for servicing.

Many thanks

Hi, any ideas, please?

I’ve had similar behaviour - not exactly this but the same sort of “what is it doing?” weirdness when things like the speed limiter / cruise control have been accidentally engaged. Is yours coming on when it shouldn’t perhaps?

Thanks, not like your car. The gears feel as though they are in the sports mode. Goes back to normal for a min when turned on and off.
The paddle shift does take gear to a lower one but not gear down via paddle shit. Nor will the display show the M mode when in paddle mode and no kickdown there tried several times. Car appears to de-accelerate a lot quicker than the norm when foot eased off the accelerator.
Thanks

Yes - I know it's not the exact same thing - just trying to generate some ideas :-)

I also had funny behaviour recently when a button (in my case the Park Assist button) was stuck down. Are either of your flappy panels stuck (mechanically or electrically) in the "pulled" position? I wouldn't be surprised if that would generate all sorts of seemingly weird gearbox behaviours.

Sorry SCRL, I did not mean to appear rude.
Many thanks for your help.
I will update once I've had a look or get someone else to have a look.
Thanks.

Hi, did you get it sorted as mine doing exactly the same.

Maybe worth doing a gearbox reset, takes 5 mins of your time and no cost.
But I don't think that will provide a permanent solution. Your car is 5 years old and has done 15K miles, that is definitely not suitable motoring for a diesel, not surprised that you needed the Nox sensor replaced.
May not be completely legal at the moment but your car needs a good long run, also what fuel are you using?
My 2016 E350 has the same 9 speed gearbox. Occasionally the DPF does a regen. The engine idles at 800rpm rather than 600 rpm and it changes up at higher revs. This is to get heat into the DPF to burn off the soot.
I can help the regen by driving at normal A road speeds with the gearbox in manual, using the paddles to keep the revs over 2000rpm.
I only use Shell V Power diesel or BP/ Esso equivilant.

I'm afraid you mistake me with guy who originally started this thread. My is 15 plate 68k miles and I did gearbox reset.

Mikema are you certain that its not the engine going into limp home mode, because it does affect gearbox when it happens.

It normally comes with messages on dash and faults stored, merc are sensitive probably more than other makes so it should be something in logs. Gearbox reset helped, all power back and gear change as it should be and it hasn't come back straight after, more like 50 miles later
