THE VERDICT Mercedes CLA 220 CDI Sport vs Volkswagen CC GT 2.0 TDI
the CC wins. They don't say it in so many words but the thing that appears to swing it is the VW's refinement! Sad to think that the CLA fails in an area that was once Mercedes forte. Still depends on what you want I guess.

There are quite a few similarities--- both front wheel drive, both 2 litre diesel 4 's, both dual clutch DSG type automatics- both "mutton dressed as lamb" based on the running gear of more lowly saloon but most important - both occupy the same price range!!! You need to spend another £15,000 approximately to get into CLS territory which is of course RWD [and a clattery 4 cylinder diesel for that money]. An old fifth gear report of the first generation Passat CC [ albeit the discontinued V6 4WD MODEL] v the first 500 V8 PETROL CLS said it stood up well in comparison despite a huge price disparity? My conclusion either the CC is a bargain or the CLA is overpriced.

Maybe same price - Merc's are always going to be more expensive. but a more fitting comparison would be if VW made a Jetta CC vs CLA.

I saw a black CLA with Black wheels otherday, looked amazing.

Not even slightly, look at the price point. If VW made a Jetta CC Merc would have nothing to compete with it as it would be even cheaper.

Once you take the new model excitement out of the equation I'd rather a CC over a CLA personally.
