What is it good for?

I've just enabled it for my car, on the basis that it cost nothing, so I might as well.

What does it actually allow you to do without paying though? In theory I can look at the Digital Service Record. Is that everything?

Everything about car status seems to require a Me Adaptor is fitted to the car (anyone know the price for them from a dealer?)

I am, I must admit, tempted by the subscription to TomTom live traffic updates. I have a TomTom and the new version of their traffic tracking system is absolutely excellent. But on the other hand - I have a TomTom (and the sucker for the mount just fits perfectly on the wood trim to the left of the centre console). So is it really worth spending money to get the same functionality on the built in (and therefore less up to date) satnav in the car?

I was wondering if anyone who uses any of the Me functionality can reveal anything which makes my mind up for me?

I am assuming that your 2013 car does not have the comm module with the built-in data SimCard. These were generally fitted to cars made after 1st September 2013, so from MY 2014 onwards.

In this case, your only option is the Mercedes Me Adapter that connects to the OBDII port.

I ordered mine online from Inchape for £35, but some dealers offer it for £12 if you visit their shop in person, others got it free with a dealer service.

It does not do much - it records your journeys, and your refuelling history, and it will show where you last left your car. It also supposed to allow you to call MB Mobilo and for them to read any fault codes remotely - but luckily I did not have the need to try that.

None of the Online services are available through it though. And this includes the TomTom Traffic Live, which is available only for 2014-onwards cars equipped with the comm module, and so the TomTom service will not be available for your car.

Also, keep in mind that because the Mercedes Me Adapter connects to the Internet via Bluetooth connection to your mobile phone, then - unlike with the comm module - you car has no Internet connection after you left it parked up. So the app on your mobile phone will show you the last known location of the car, but it's not a GPS tracker - i.e. the app does not actually know where the car is now, so if you car is moved by someone else after you parked it then the Mercedes Me app won't know about it.

This is also the reason why none of the remote services are available via the adapter, but only through the comm module - e.g. remote programming or remote lock/unlock etc.

PS - The TomTom Traffic Live subscription only works on 2014-onwards cars equipped with COMAND Online; but not with Audio20, Becker Map Pilot, or Garmin Map Pilot.

Thanks MJ. Sorry I've accidentally split this conversation across multiple threads!

The Mercedes Me portal seems to indicate that I need the Me adaptor for any of the things like mileage records, fuel levels, etc. And if I try to do anything which requires data, the COMAND uses my phone as a hotspot.

But at the same time it seems to have the TomTom Live. Presumably though it would need the bluetooth connection to my phone for that to work too.

Very odd!
