I’ve just bought a late 2015 model and the Perreli P zero tyres on 20 in wheels.
They are noticeably noisy at motorway speeds, my much older S350 had Michelins and the car was stunningly quiet.
Any members can recommend from previous experiences if they’ve researched and resolved this?

Did your older S350 also have 20" rims? Could the extra noise be related to a change to lower profile perhaps?

No the other had 17 in rims

Ok, so assuming both cars have the same rolling radius, that's a reduction of an inch and a half in the sidewall height. That's often blamed for a decrease in ride comfort, but intuitively it seems like it could explain an increase in tyre noise too.

If you look on some tyre websites, you can sort the results by noise.

I know that noise relates to noise from an observer's point of view, but I have personally found there is usually good correlation to in-cabin noise.

It's also surprising how much that reported noise can change between different sizes of the same brand.

I've found Goodyear Eagle F1s and Dunlop Sport Maxx to be pretty quiet in the cabin on the non-20" wheels I've run.

I’m was thinking of changing tyres ..now the 20 in rims..not sure if I should change to 18 in rims also or just change tyres only..decisions decisions!

I presume these are 245/40/R20s and 275/35/R20s?

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S are currently £215 and £250 each in Costco. They are a pretty compliant tyre.

Bridgestone Turanza 6 are reported to have the quietest rating in this tyre size (69dB). You'd have to look around to find a supplier, but they will be a similar price to the MPS4S from Costco.

I'd try the tyres first.
Older = harder = noisier
Older = less tread = noisier

You will get use out of them.
New alloys might be quite expensive when you factor in new tyres.

Yes those are the tyres..
Will try Costco ones
Thanks again

The MPS4S have the added benefit of being a very highly regarded tyre for performance and not too bad in the cool weather for a summer tyre.

The P zeros are (depending on exact spec) notoriously hard/poor performing in cooler temperatures (below 20⁰C), but can offer very good hot track performance.

I’m afraid my track days are somewhat limited..now..lol

The usual issue is feathering of the trad blocks. No matter what tyre you have quite a few modern cars (not just MB) suffer from this. I suggest a Hankook or Falken.

+1 for the Hankooks and Falkens

I had both on my Chrysler 300C. The Hankooks (Ventus V12 evo2) especially impressed me. My garage called them a 'mid range' tyre, but the wet and dry grip were excellent, and tyre noise wasn't noticeable. The wet grip in particular was a step up from the Falkens they replaced (Azenis FK453), but that was probably because the Falkens were at the end of their useful life.

How old/worn are they? 🤔

If relatively new I would, as already stated "Turn up the Music"

Are you sure its the tyres?
