hi all

need some good advice. have the following car

2003 mercedes sl500 R230

Had a problem when purchased the vehicle with ABC warning sign on the dash panel in normal writing and NOT red.

Have had the car for around 7 months and want to sort this problem out. Have had a ABC oil and filter change with rodeo test, which didnt work. Then had the ABC rear valve block fitted and still the error sign is appearing.

Before i did all the above, the STAR diagnostic said there was

rear left hydraulic circuit fault (passenger side, which is why had the valve block replaced, but could it be the strut ?, there is no leaks or sagging )

pressure too low

but the car does up and down without any problems until the error message appears, then it wont work. have to restart car and then works again.

Any ideas as dont want to go and spending !!

Sounds pump. It doesn't build pressure quick enough.

A decent check on STAR will tell you though.

after replacing the re manufactured rear valve block, the error still appears on the dash "ABC Error" and this will stay on until the car is turned off.

After speaking to the company that remanufactured the valve block, they say the engineer said there was normal wear and tear and that the seals were replaced and the valve block cleaned.

I did say to them the only error showing is the following

hydraulic fault in rear left suspension strut

to that they advised that the valve block could still be faulty (but they believe the problem is the ABC Pump) and will be sending another valve block that has also been fully tested and repaired and see if that resolves the issue.

My question is , what bar should the ABC pump be operating on, mine is showing 184 but the remanufacturers are saying it should be around 200 if not then at least 195, but 184 is very low and indeed can display the error.

They say the pump cannot maintain the correct pressure and the rear accumulator cannot stay full and will lose pressure and therefore will bring error to the rear suspension strut.

What i need clarification on is the following

1. should the pump be operating at higher bar and not at 184, is that too low

2. with the car on and no ABC error, there is alot of travel when you push the car down from the rear, its boucing

thanks all
