merc vito 115cdi
hi
im new to this forum . I purchased my Vito 115cdi last year after having little vans but decided I needed something a bit bigger I always liked the Vito,s .
my van had/has a few problems I.E aircon not working easy fix . done changed the solenoid works fine .
next problem has been a night mare . van keeps going into limp mode at 3000rpm . took it to an independent Merc garage who plugged it into star to find fault codes . no codes found .
They are still at a loss having tested all the sensors and replaced , checked all hoses on the intercooler no splits etc .
Having done this they took the tank off and cleaned it out .
They checked the coding for each injector etc everything fine . They are now thinking its the electronic actuator on the turbo (even though when ignition is turned off it moves freely .
My Vito is a w639 115 cdi registered 1st feb 2010 .
I really enjoy my Vito and im one of those persons who if it says red line is 6000rpm I want it to be able to do it even though I will probably never need to .
I am looking for some advice if anyone can help a newby out please
cheers kev

You've done the right thing going to a Merc specialist, but if they can't find the issue you'll be lucky if some one here can give you the answer.
On saying that I spent 2 hours at an MB indie who could only suggest possibiles and many weeks later I bought my own Star and within 2 hours it was running.
Going in to limp mode I would have thought would store a code/s, that's how it's designed.

The only thing I can suggest, and likely not of great value but possibly, is to set yourself up with Torque, a basic diagnostic tool and otherwise a nice toy.
The app downloads to an android device for free, a few quids gets you the pro version but consider that later.
Buy one of these
Super Mini BT ELM327 V2.1 Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner Car Scan Auto Diagnostic Tool | eBay

On the Torque app you can set it up to monitor information while driving, a live test. There are many things you might look at, fuel pressure, turbo boost..... Just possibly you might see a glitch as the system flips to limp.

Where are you?

Surprised there were no codes logged. We had a similar problem with the Viano going in to limp mode while driving. After finally noting exactly when it happened which was on acceleration. Turned out that the cover on the air cleaner was not fastened down tight enough. There was however an error logged which was "excessive boost on acceleration". The dealer wanted to dismantle the entire intake system stating that obviously the there was a leak. Before that happened had a look and found that one screw on the air cleaner cover would not tighten the thread stripped probably at the last service when the air filter was replaced. Repaired the threads tightened down the screw and no more problems. The only time we had all sorts of problems with no error codes logged was when the key was faulty. The dealer could not diagnose it and tried all sorts of remedies and I think in the end some one suggested the key.

thanks for the replies guys . I have found out that a lot of vitos after 2007 have electronic actuators ,no vacuum pipes . I am collecting another actuator on Saturday morning so I will change it and see what happens . there is still no fault codes logged . so if its not the actuator I will change every hose on the intercooler and buy a replacement turbo. I think the independent merc garage are getting fed up now not being able to solve it . I have several odb scanners but haven't been able to use them while driving I will try tomorrow .
