ML63 AMG W164
Morning all, (and as always thanks to all the posters on this forum who have helped me over the years with great advice)

I’ve got a 2010 ML63AMG and the main battery is on its last legs. I think I’m capable of swopping it out myself but with my sensible head on pondering leaving it to a Merc specialist however could anyone advise;

1. Does one need to keep a constant 12v supply supplied to the car via a battery pack whilst I change out the battery? Or can I just remove and replace the battery losing all power whilst I do so without having to reset anything?
2. I also read somewhere something about surge protection when changing a car battery?
2. Best recommendation for said new battery? Ie whether best to buy a Mercedes OEM battery or aftermarket such as Bosch? And battery model if you have it?

Cheers again

I don't know about the ML, but I could guess it's very similar to the E class of thid same period.

So battery recommendations would be AGM (Acid Glass Mat) type.
Check the Merc part number on the top.

Check Tayna batteries probably for either Varta Silver (believed to be E class Merc OE supplier) with 4 year warranty, or Bosch S5 woth5 year warranty.

Once you have prices, if you want a Merc original battery (only 2 year warranty) you could try giving a local dealer a call, and asking them a price, and if was off the mark, casually mention that it's quite expensive compared with Varta who you believe are OE, and you would love to buy the Merc battery but it needs to be very close to the Varta price.

Has worked for me once in the past with Merc Derby.

Being the '63' variety, I don't have any experience regarding the actual battery swap.
