Multiple Fault Warning Lights

I have a 2012 C220 with a recurring fault that lights up multiple fault warning lights on the dash.

It tends to start with a run flat indicator warning coupled with ABS warning light, ESP warning, then cruise control and limit failure message, speedometer then fails for a couple of seconds at a time, handbrake light stays on etc etc

Had it diagnosed and multiple fault codes cleared but no root cause located.

Concern is it’s a faulty SAM or broken wiring but I have been advised even if I replace the SAM it might not be the root cause.

Anyone seen anything like this - all ideas would be welcome.

Battery voltage?
The first 5 symptoms you mention are also common when an ABS sensor fails.
Were the codes read on a STAR machine or generic code reader?
Welcome BTW!

Hi

They were read on a STAR, but garage said they had also struggled to get a signal from the SAM ?

How can I test battery voltage ? Sorry not very practical !

Are any of the faults related to wheel speed sensor? If one of these are faulty then it will light up the dashboard like a Christmas tree. It will then disable ABS, cruise control and other functionality.

Thanks for the feedback on that.

Usually two message faults first, ABS and Run Flat indicator inoperative, then two more intermittently, run safe inoperative and cruise control inoperative,

Also hand brake light goes red (brake not on) and engine management light goes yellow and stays yellow even if all other faults clear for a few minutes before returning.

What codes are logged?

It needs to be looked at with some MB experienced eyes and some proper diag equipment.

I had this when my battery went dead flat and stood a weekend.
on jump starting I had ABS, EPS, Engine warning, My stop lamps were permanently on.
unable to clear faults but almost all said low voltage.
then on about the 3rd day things started to correct themselves until all were ok.
after asking questions I was told that the ECUs reset themselves and it needs about 5 startup and cool down cycles to reset?
limited info available to me But mine is ok now

So cant get the car into an MB garage for ten days so took it to a local garage for a quick view.

First message it appears is always Pre-safe system inoperative - see owners manual.

Then he did some digging and there is an intermittent pulsing sound coming from where the passenger side seat belt tensioner is located almost like its shorting or trying to tension.

Every time it pulses the front parking sensor lights flash on and and off (?!) and after a while other fault messages appear as follows :
Run Flat Indicator inoperative
Traction control inoperative
Cruise control speedtronic inoperative

Could a fault with the belt pre-tensioner trigger all that ?

Where was the diagnosis?

Clearing fault codes and no root cause is not my definition of a diagnosis.

You need to find a new specialist.

The initial 'diagnosis' was by my local MB main dealer

What was the diagnosis that the dealer came up with?

Replacing the SAM is just throwing an expensive part at the problem without properly establishing the cause.

They did not come up with anything other than multiple codes which they cleared (then returned). Suggested broken wiring somewhere or faulty SAM but did say new SAM would not guarantee a fix.
All done on a Star etc. at the dealer I use on my MB service plan.
Probably just going to have to get rid of it !

my car always jerking every first 20 km/h only.. after i start the car and there are warnings pop-up says "1. Release parking break & 2. Front right/left malfunction, Consult workshop" After that it ran smoothly but sometimes the check engine warning light up but sometimes its gone automatically

ive taking my car to the diagnostics, and the following codes have shown up with the following faults. Any help or any advice would be appreciate.

any advise please

A failing battery can cause multiple and seemingly unrelated faults.

Check and charge the battery, delete the codes, rescan and see what codes come back 👍

did change the battery, the previous battery was 13 years old with 60% health. changed to a new Bosh one , the issue keeps coming up . After a long drive s 3-6 hrs journey the issue disappears ( for a few days ) but after a day or 2 comes back up after a cold start the car throttles fine, without showing any warning lights on the dashboard, but once I start driving and press the accelerator the following ESP, DTC, and foot brake warning lights start to flash and then within a few seconds they stop, and the car rides perfectly fine throughout the journey, again after starting the car and driving (after a 40-minute journey ) the same thing repeats, I have placed a new battery ( which was just installed last week) but the issue remains the same !! Also have cleared the codes twice no change ...

Any advice?? possibly a failing alternator ?? voltage regulator ?? have also attached a detailed diagnostic report

Who carried out the diagnostics and what are their conclusions?

diagnostics were carried out by

A1 German Car & Bike Specialists

Independent BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW Service and Parts Centre in Stevenage

Call: 01438746046

and they aren't too sure what the issue could be, but they are more inclined toward an alternator change!

Unsure why. Part of the test showed Battery voltage at 14.9V

If there was no load this is a reasonable reading from the alternator.

It does look like a SAM issue.
