Today I have left a Kerbed Alloy at Lepson's in Kent.

I know their reputation is good and they have an impressive set up, but.........

Why do I feel sooo nervous??

The wheel has only covered 1,700 miles.

Bloody stupid car park exit caught me out, very very gutted!

The only thing to be nervous about is that the refurbed one will match the other 3 perfectly. Lepson's work is first class, and your wallet sill only be about £70 lighter!

Have you experienced their work Chris?

A good smart repairer would have done that for £40 or less, minimal damage, easy repair.

I have seen a good few wheels they've refurbed - on Porsches belonging to Kent region PCGB members! All were immaculate. Excel wheels also use them and advertise in the club mag - they come to the house, remove your wheels and fit a loan set while they send yours to Lepsons for refurb, then come back and refit your own wheels. You can even request different size loan wheels - so for instance, I could try 17's on my 968 while my 16's are being refurbed.

are those not diamond cuts then? maybe it's just the pictures.
I got caught the same way just after I got mine in a very narrow ramp in Edinburgh- NSR was scuffed around like yours. Mine being diamond cuts meant it had to be skimmed, and cost £120 and the car was off the road for a week!

I used Lepsons......first class service and product.

Yes, Diamond cut around the rim.

This is why I used Lepson's, based on their reputation.

Was going to order the W205 with the 19" AMG's, glad I didn't as this would have been even £'s to repair!

So miffed, past three cars have been unmarked through their life with me.

established now it's a diamond cut, smart repairers cannot do these, as they need to skimmed on a lathe, bit specialist for these guys.....

Good being the operative word, they have a technique now to repair diamond
cut rims,search google and see...

Can't you only refurb a diamond cut wheel only once or twice due to only being able to take so much of the face?

Or has that changed now?

yip that's what I understood, maybe this smart repairers technique changes that, I will investigate....

Thanks, that being the case I will check it out- used to be only skimming (and only once or twice then the rim would be goosed)

checked various smart mobile repair sites and they say they can repair minor damage on the vehicle on site, but more dameged wheels will have to be taken off and lathe skimmed. Suppose depends what 'minor' consists of. The OPS wheel looked more than minor, and looked pretty similar to the damage I had

I had a diamond cut wheel on my e92 M3 repaired by Lepsons after tyre fitters damaged it but it was quite dissapointing because they 'chamfered' the damaged edge so it was totally noticeable compared to the other wheels but I guess that's all they can do.

Got the wheel back today, fantastic job.

Very happy with the finish.

They have put the merest chamfer on the outmost edge, but you would be hard pushed to spot it.

The colour match on the metallic grey paint is spot on too.

All in all.... Lepsons get my recommendation!

I was just searching this forum to see if anyone else has had the same experience as me and I found this (rather old) thread. I also just got my diamond cut edge quite heavily chamfered by Lepsons. There was minimal kerbing, nothing that a millimetre or two or so of diamond cut wouldn't have removed without needing to chamfer the edge.

Thankfully I was foresightful enough to have all 4 rims done at the same time, so at least there is symmetry all around. If you take your wheels to them insist they chamfer only if absolutely necessary; they seem to do it by default.

It has always been possible to weld new metal into a badly damaged wheel , then machine back to the original profile .

I had that done many years ago after having a puncture on the M9 ; it turned out I’d ran over a four inch long bolt which had not only gone through the tread of my tyre but went on to punch its way through the inner surface of my ‘Mexican Hat’ alloy wheel on my W114 - those wheels , back in the 1970’s were £300 each , so in real terms much more expensive than wheels fitted to newer cars .

My local garage sent the wheel away to a specialist repairer who welded in new metal and machined back to the original profile ; the repair was invisible and 1/10 the price of a new wheel ; I went on to do a further 200,000 miles in that car , many of them at very naughty speeds , which you could do back in these days , without any problems .
