I have flirted with the idea of CLS for some time now. Almost bought a 55 AMG this time last year, but just couldn’t get my head around the fuel consumption.
With a new CLS due shortly, Mercedes have just a couple of the run out model Grand Edition left and I’m tempted again.:o
With some tasty extras standard including the 50bhp upgrade (why has it taken so long?) and posh wheels, all I really need to add is a memory pack to give me a car I could easily live with.
My idea is to cash in the S class, put some money in the bank and take advantage of the low rate lease deal.
With over £7K off list and a sensible APR it appears a good deal. Others seem to think so as there are very few still about. What do you think?

Lovely car but I think you would miss your S Class.

You only live once (unless your buddhist :-) )
If having it wont affect your life or those you love, negatively (worrying about fuel consumption!) then you should have it.
Dont spend your life looking back....wondering
Enjoy your new car while theres still oil in the wells:-)

You may well be right! I know the difference in the cars is similar to turning left or right when you get on a 747. You will get to the same place at the same time, but arrive just a little more relaxed if you turn left.
Maybe the smart thing to do is throw the £500 per month into a savings or pension account as a hedge against future deprecation of the cars I own as a method of financial discipline.
I’ve been used to new company cars every few months for many years and I’m coming up to two years without buying a new car. It could be just withdrawal symptoms!:o

Why not ask Mercedes for a demo car for a few days, try it out on a number of journeys - see if you really would prefer the CLS to your S-Class?

Personally, I think that once the 'new car' novelty has worn off, you'll miss the 221.

I had a CLS as a loan car for a week earlier in the year and I know it is not quite such a good car as the S, but it would be 30 months futher away from its end of warranty.
Apart from the low rate PCP, maybe one of the attactions of the Grand Edition is that Mercedes have made an 'official' version of a car with some of the upgrades I have already done to mine. Posh wheels, engine upgrade and discrete badging:dk:

Grasshopper, when you are an old man, looking back at your life, make sure you regret the things you did, not the things you didn't.

I looked at a CLS but opted for a C320CDI sport in the end as we didn't need a car of that size as there is only 2 of us but i would stick with your S class if it were me and save the £500 a month :thumb:

Well I've just turned down the last Grand Edtion CLS in the country. I did go to test a E350CDI Coupe which was fine, but on about 3 months delivery to the spec I'd want.
I suppose I'll just have to 'suffer';) the S until the spring and see if anything else catches my eye. Whatever the financial incentives or penalties, I find it difficult to take a step downward from this car now:o

Well, the CLS won’t be Grand but it will be a 59 plate replacing the S Class on Wednesday. There is nothing I can fault the S on, but since my contract in Yorkshire finished the car has only being doing half the mileage it was previously and I was finding it harder to justify it to myself. The proceeds of its sale when added to a small inheritance my wife had earlier in the year will allow us to pay off the mortgage.
I located a high spec 320CDI at Mercedes direct and have done a deal so that it will effectively cost me almost £7k less over the next two years to have a 59 pate CLS than even the heavily subsidised Mercedes offer on a new car. The deal means that I got a better trade in price and effectively £17k off the list price for a car just 3 months old.:)
This will be my 4th nearly new car from Mercedes direct, and if I’d not been happy before I wouldn’t be going back.
Will I miss the S? We’ll see! The CLS has virtually all the same toys including Nappa, memory, xenons, COMAND, phone and all the usual stuff.
The only thing I just might miss is my old German suspension expert, Herr Matic.:o
I won’t miss the additional 200Kgs!

Well done, Mac. I thought it sounded like the itchy fingers would be hard to douse by means other than a purchase!!

But can you get your rims under the CLS arches???

No! I suspect you may see a 'Kahn wheels and lowering kit for S Class' come up on ebay in the spring;)

i take it that you are putting the orig alloys back on and keep your 21inch alloys.

Yep! All back to standard now. Wheels, lowering, pedals, badges etc;)
The 18" wheels have just 1000 mile old rear tyres on and it's going to make someone a really nice car.
