If the trader stands by the cars he sells, putting a new MOT on it and getting his asking price isn't so bad.
In fairness, its a lot of car for the money and is a p/x he is just moving on. You do have consumer rights however and his idea of "sold as seen" won't stand up if there is something inherently wrong with it.

How about booking it in for an MOT down the road somewhere before you even collect it. Pay for it drive it off the forecourt directly to the MOT. If it fails massively drive it back and demand your money back...all in the space of an hour or so.
But it does seem odd that he can't be bothered with MOT. If it had MOT he could ask more for it.

Buyer beware.

Buy it on the internet, 14 days for a refund under distance selling regulations

The google reviews for this dealer provides interesting reading lol i would avoid based on that alone.

The car itself from checking the MOT history has the ball joints pop up a few times but personally being so close to a new MOT i would avoid if it didn't come with a fresh one. Try offering to pay for it if you can chose the garage.

Basically it comes across as they have a cheap car they may or may not know has a problem and they don't want to spend a penny on it.

You do have rights if something does go wrong but believe me it can go on for months and it's just not worth it to be without a car and a hefty repair bill.

If something doesn't feel right then it usually isn't.

Report them to trading standards as it is illegal for them to use the phrase "Sold as seen" to a consumer.

Personally, I'd look for another.

Thanks guys, walk away it is!
The search goes on.

Last MOT test advisory O/S/F lower suspension ball joint slight play.
Apart from that, passed every MOT. (From DVLA History check)

Up your budget if you can, you will save it back in reduced repair bills...

Would love to but at this time this is my max, next year i will be after something a bit more special!

If he won't MoT it, he knows that there are reasons it won't pass.

And be clear, an MoT means beggar all about reliability, quality and safety or the car. An MoT is only a very basic test of safety.

An MoT doesn't mean that the car will start and run consistently.

There are lots of good W211's out there - it's far cheaper to buy a good one than to buy one with faults and fettle it yourself.

I tried that with a garage locally to me. Never made a blind bit of difference. They are still using the phrase or "PX to clear no warranty".

Ah, the joys of buying used cars.
Personally. I'd walk away from that one and maybe slightly change what you want/need. I went looking for a CLS last year and came back with a derv CLK and only just recently, I went out looking for a CLS and came back with a leather sofa - although I did get a CLS eventually :D
