Does anyone know of any problems caused by fitting non Mercedes abs wheel speed sensors. I have had an overheating diff lock message and problems with hill start assist on my 2011 GL 350. A forum member had the same issue and it was solved by changing the abs sensors the genuine MB ones. I was not convinced but then I remembered that the problems started the day I fitted a new non MB abs sensor. Before I shell out for expensive sensors I would like a bit more reassurance.

Aftermarket MAF sensors in particular seem to cause problems which end up being resolved with an OEM sensor.
The Chinese copies strike again.

Which brand were they? If they were a cheap ebay jobbie, bin them.

Genuine ABS sensors are not exactly mega bucks and are guaranteed to work! If your problems started on the day you fitted non MB sensors then I suspect you have just answered your question. I have only ever used Genuine parts 3 ABS wheel sensors , on 3 cars , in last 18 months and never had a problem .

Aftermarket abs sensors just don't work for many models of modern mercedes.
Even oem brands like ATE. We were caught out by this some years back and now only use genuine.

It's something to do with digital signal vs analogue and the aftermarket not differentiating between the two.

Thanks for the replies. I have at least 2 non MB sensors and managed to find 2 genuine ones on eBay for 20 and 25 quid. The sensors I fitted were from Euro car parts and GSF. My icarsoft code reader does list faults "inplausable signal" relating to abs sensors, although the abs system works fine and the abs light is off.

i just fitted a front and rear MB speed sensors and it has cured the following problems that i have lived with for a year.
Diff lock overheating message when using diff lock or with mild wheelspin.
Hill start assist now works again.
Hard suspension fixed.:)

I've only just seen this thread, so apologies for a late reply.

Last year I had my C class dashboard light up like a Christmas tree. ESP, TC, ABS, TPMS, all disabled. My local garage plugged their diagnostic equipment in, and unsurprisingly a wheel rotation sensor wasn't giving feedback. They ordered one from Andrew Page, and it didnt resolve the problem. They continued with fault finding, and the wiring appeared to check out ok. After a little head scratching they decided to order and try a sensor from our local MB dealer. Low and behold it resolved the issue. The surprising thing was that it was actually a tenner cheaper than the pattern part from Page's!!!

Glad you got your problem sorted. :thumb:

We would second this. We are often asked about fitting aftermarket ones but having been bitten on the backside before and having to do a job twice....its genuine only here!
