Just bought a replacement cabin filter.

Stealership price £26.78

Halfords price £38.00

What's all that about then?

Needless to say I bought the cheaper one - No flies on me eh?

Halfords branded bulbs cost more the Bosch ones. How does that work then? :)

I have found this too .

You will not always find that 'alternative' parts from other suppliers are cheaper than genuine parts from the dealer .

It is always worth comparing prices before buying something expensive though .

W124, 210, 201 and 202 parts from main dealer aren't that much more expensive anymore as they're classed as outside the aged vehicle scope. parts prices are pretty much there or there abouts and its allways better to buy genuine anyway.. but I would say that being a stealer

Yup, rear shocks for my W202 estate costs £77+VAT from Stealer before discount, over £120+VAT from ECP.

Is it Drayton you work at in cobridge?:)

The cabin filter is about £8 from ECP! Halfords are having a laugh!

And the same price at GSF! I'd never buy anything car-part related from Halfrauds.

Only as a very last resort if I desperately need something on a Sunday

Could you explain what "aged vehicle scope" is and means in terms of part prices?

Thanks

"aged vehicle scope"

basically relates to how many vehicles the main dealer see's through the doors from a parts sales point of view....

As general rule of thumb once a vehicle hits about 6-7 years old they don't come back to the main dealer in the volumes they did due to servicing labour costs.. Hence MB don't need to stock the volume of parts they did for these models and this means they can start to reduce the volumes of stock holding and this affects prices accordingly..
