SL65

Other than the silly number plate lettering it looked a very well kept car and sounded great!

RHS badge looks wrong and the exhausts look wrong too, though I'm no SL65 expert.

What was the actual numberplate?

Pretty sure a 65 should have quad tailpipes.

J60PDP I checked after flowrider said not insured (as like him I'm a nosey git :thumb:) and it's insured, taxed and MOT'd

Flowrider maybe you put J6PDP instead? I took the pic yesterday.

It's showing 5439cc 2003 car on database.

Maybe he had aftermarket exhausts?

For a 14 year old motor I still think it looks

Any MB loses its credibility once you add an eBay black series badge.

It's a great car in its own right - an SL55.

Yep, it's another wannabe pile of ****e, it's a sl55.

Yip a 2003 SL55
Which be honest is a nice car, so why would someone do this to it!
Ok the mods but please not the badges!

I agree, if you want to anything with the badges just remove them completely and keep people guessing.

Messing with them like this and no one needs to guess what you are...they know what you are. A D**khead.

The other day I was cut up by an SLK 200 with an AMG badge on the boot, he certainly drove it like an AMG in traffic.
I think there are more M badge wannabes about than AMG badgers.

Yep, it's another wannabe pile of ****e, it's a sl55.

Thanks for the confirmation John. I'll have words with him if I see him again as I only work down the road :D

No need to let me know Doc, I apparently should already know I'm a d88ckhead, unlike John who likes to let everyone know he is, in public forums.

Yes it is my car and me driving it in your picture, for all the clever comments, its 4 years work and tens of thousands of pounds spent, because my wife and I chose too. We agree she sound and looks fab, the "silly" plate is due to the Automobile Club de Monaco badge proudly displayed next to it as a current member. 14 years old she certainly is, but does everything we want everyday, whether it be chomping across Europe many times each year or just pottering about to the many Car Shows we get invited too, she is glorious.

Anyone seriously interested to know of all the work done and how we got 20 x 13J wheels on the back and why we need them, please do feel free to ask.

Very best regards.

I'm not sure it caught anyone off guard except those who don't really know what a 65 is...

Pretty easy to check what the actual car it is particularly as SL65s are quite rare.

I don't personally understand why you would bother badging up a car to be something it is not as I imagine you will be asked about it and you will either have to lie or own up it isn't. Anyone knowing their onions will know it isn't anyway.

It won't sound right either.

Each to their own though!

An SL55 is an awesome car in its own right so I would personally be proud of that.

As for the mods, I personally like it except for the number plate style, regardless of reason, and the exhausts. Would prefer the standard SL55 exhaust...

Hi John,
Agree with a lot you comment on, Plate lettering is a taste thing and subjective I suppose, SL55 exhausts simply don't fit kit mouldings, ones on are best we could get at present. They may well change, just the aesthetics that is.

As for badges, she didn't have badges on at all, straight after kit went on, couldn't go anywhere without being stopped and had to endure all sorts of tiresome, comments that went as follows:
"suppose its a 350 done up eh?"
"what is it?"
"Which kit is it and what have you done that to a 350 for?"

So we put SL55 Badges on:
"Thats not a 55!"
"Bet its a 350 with badges on?"
and just about every other "stupid" comment you can ever think of. I couldn't be bothered eventually.

Thus, far better to just stick SL65 badges on. As you quite rightly say, those in the know; know it aint right, cabrio roof, oval rather than square petrol cap, non standard wheels, does rather give it away. All the others just nod appreciation and believe what they want to believe. If they ask, they're normally lovely and we have a great discussion about all the work done, really enjoy the crack.

As for the sound, in my opinion and that of many others, having had the exhausts, headers etc seriously worked and audio tuned, over 3000 rpm its quite simply a symphony. Cheers P

Each to their own I say..
How about putting up some pics to show us the rest of the car and maybe a bit of info on what you have done to it.
Regards
Rob.
