I have a 2006 high mileage Estate. I have a brake fluid leak just above the rear silencer. At the moment I can’t do this myself as I am waiting for a new hip.
They don’t look very good to get at and I wondered if anyone had changed the steel rear pipes and do you have to remove such as the fuel tank or subframe ?

Thanks Ken

If you go to a Mercedes dealer they will remove everything, fit new steel pipes and charge accordingly. Best use a trusted garage to do it with copper/cunifer pipes which can be fitted around everything without any removel.

I have a local garage. I just wondered if they were as bad as they look to do.

You don't need to replace all the way, as in front of the rear axle they disappear under an undertray, so find a pipe fitter/MB indie to remove the undertray, cut the steel pipe and remove to the calipers then fabricate new replacement in cunifer and join to the steel with a quick connector, my 2008 S204 failed its MoT on corroded rear brake lines the day before the MoT ran out, finding someone to do the job at very short notice meant my wallet got raped!

Thanks

It was circa 12 years ago that I had this done on a C320.

Cost at the time was £600 with £33 being for parts!

I believe my Independent partly dropped the fuel tank.

The place I use is pretty good
I worked there a while after I retired so fingers crossed it’s not going to be a fortune.
Thanks

Many £
Anyway I get a quote from the garage

Thank you
The price was at least 12 years ago!

It was around 8 hours labour from memory 👍

Thanks

I've done them on numerous Mercedes cars = as has been said , if you get someone who can fabricate pipes , it is easy enough to bend them to fit ; also they don't have to be done all in one piece , you can get both male and female couplers so that you can join shorter lengths together securely .

Good luck with the hip : my mother had three ( they tend to last about 10 years then need done again ) . I have pain in one of my hips , and both knees giving trouble , but I'm managing with painkillers until the inevitable .

Not quite the same car, a 2009 S204 C Class.
I had the rear brake pipes replaced a couple of years ago and its a straightforward job with no need to remove fuel tank, just the arch liner on the near side. Cost me £160 inc parts and labour from my local mechanic who is cheap as chips. I dread to think what a main dealer would charge.

There is an inline connector on the pipe line from the factory, hidden by the undertray , the subframe bolts can be loosened to help with access , but still a pain of a job .

You did well for £225 :thumb:
