Hi. A friend is looking to have the engine in his 80's G wagon rebuilt to a high standard , it has the OM617 engine , he's contemplating a 606 conversion but I feel the original 617 if properly sorted would be the better option. Engine runs fine but has really bad blow by and smoking heavily from the engine breather , car is a keeper and money not an issue really but we want the best rebuild available in the UK.

I know two Gwagen restorers in Somerset one of whom has done extensive work on my gwagen. they both have also done many, many 606a conversions, V8 conversions etc, they are fully conversant with the 617 engine in G wagens.
I am sure one of them could assist.
pm me and I will share their contact info.

Regards

John

If he wants to keep it as original as possible, and is happy with the performance rebuild the 617. If he wants better fuel economy and more power, go for a 605 conversion. 606 is only needed if you looking for big power.
