Just a little true story for you all. Driving my relations back to Stevenage, my SRS light came on the dash (seat belt and air bag warning). And whilst reversing into a parking space, I realised my reversing warning wasn't working. Driving home carefully in case I got a face full of talcum powder, I phoned my indie garage for an appointment. On arrival the car was put on the star diagnosis and found that the sensor for the rear n/s rear belt was faulty. This would mean a new belt system at the cost of £500 + vat + labour.
So, booked in for new belt.
This didn't answer the question of the reversing warning system so, the following day, I removed the rear side panel in my estate and found all the wires bitten through by some rodent. It had even eaten its way through a small grille underneath the rear of the car to get inside.. I now have to repair all the wiring and, it makes me think that it might just be a broken wire to the seat belt.

Many years ago, my then boss had a nearly new Saab 9000 company car that suddenly had all sorts of electrical gremlins. Was found to be caused by mice gnawing their way through multiple bits of the engine compartment wiring loom. Took quite a few visits for the dealer to find all the separate bits that needed to be repaired.

Hope you manage to find & repair all the damage on yours.

I would definitely say there’s a good chance the two faults are related. Can you postpone the replacement of the seatbelt until the wiring is repaired? You could potentially save yourself £500+.
If it was me I’d definitely wait, and if it turns out the faults aren’t related at least you will know for sure.

I have spoken to my indie service guy and explained what I found. So, he is going to investigate before ordering the seat belt. I need this just when I'm about to sell it and, buy an A class because my wife can't drive my e320 estate.

Well, £690 later, I've got a new n/s rear suspension air bag and, all renewed wiring that the dirty rat destroyed. The only problem now, is that the o/s air bag sensor is saying there is a malfunction although, the ride height is correct and working properly.

Yes, all done at a cost. Still got to replace the reversing sensors

Can I ask you what Indie you use in Norfolk ?. We are in the process of moving to Norwich and although the one I currently use here in Suffolk is very good I would just like one a little closer to home. We are moving to central Norwich NR1 :)

Sorry for the delay in replying. I use Zeemax in Dereham and, have done for the last 4 year since moving up from Cornwall. Paul the owners prices are very reasonable.
