Hello All,

A friend of mine has the usual array of PAS/ESP/BAS failure messages on his 2006 C-class.

I know on a lot of older Mercedes you just need to replace the brake pedal switch, however he is unable to find one on his car. The dealership gave him a switch for the handbrake light? which is obviously didn't have any effect on the issue.

They have advised that the work that it most likely will need doing will probably be around the £300 +vat mark, which seems steep to me. They claim that it £90 to read the computer, £60 for parts plus 2 hours labour as they have to bleed the brakes. Seems a lot for something that only use to be a cheap switch before.

Does this sound right? as when I had the same fault on my 2000 W208 it was £8 for the switch and less than 5 minutes for me to swap it over.

Cheers

Michael

I understand that some models have a hydraulically operated brake light switch hence the additional labour and cost.

Possibly worth finding a local MB specialist who would charge considerably less?

Do you know it is the brake light switch that has failed?

Have you had it diagnosed?

Reather than bunging parts on it get it diagnosed properly. It will save you ££ in the long run.

As above, no-one can quote you for a repair until you have had it diagnosed!

This should be obvious, but I will spell it out....

You have a warning on the dash, it relates to some form of fault that affects the ABS/BAS/ESP system (they are all combined in one control module).
It DOES NOT specifically relate to a brake pedal switch fault as this car does not have one.
The only way forward is to have it connected to suitable equipment by a Mercedes specialist to properly DIAGNOSE the fault. Then, and only then, can a repairer quote for a repair.

If you name your location perhaps a forum member could recommend a suitable garage to help you along?
