It loks like it is a plastic film applied to the dash - have you used any cleaning materials containing solvents?

Does the area get hotter than normal, although the bubbling if caused by heat it would normally look more like blisters?

Like most of the satin look it's a paint film applied to plastic, just hasn't stuck very well

A bit of a long shot, but have you had a car air refreshener
near it, they can actually do that.
(Just beat me to it Ted) :)
Possible but I would be surprised if an air freshener has caused that. Thanks for reply

I may take to dealership to ask although isn’t within warranty

Plus for air freshener...I had this on an old BMW years ago..it was clipped to an air vent and dripped down the dash causing exactly the same effect

Wow. I can’t believe it. How did you fix it?

seriously?!!!!! I and shocked that an air freshener could cause this. Do you know how I could fix this?
Other than removing the affected section and refinishing no -sorry A vehicle interior detailer may know otherwise??

Looking at the pic, that section looks separate, if it is,
pop it off, using something plastic, see how much it is from Mercedes, or a scrap yard, failing that, rub it down, get a satin black rattle can and do it yourself.

UNFORTUNATELY that looks like the faceplate of the Audio20/Command unit thats affected - don't thinks thats a replaceable trim part ??
