Hello all, can someone please try to decode what parts are being discussed on this Estimate of works for a 2012 E250 Coupe.

It’s just had the airbag recall done at the main dealers but they provided this estimate, please can someone give their time to tell me exactly what parts they are quoting?

Is it simply an exhaust, which part? Catalytic converter?

Brake disks.. msybe break lines as I’ve seen they are expensive to replace?

This is a car I was planning to buy once this recall was completed but getting an £1800 estimate has got me worried about what’s down the line.

Note - this 2012 car has 59k miles and has a clean advisory free MOT issued first week of Feb 2025 so less than 4 weeks ago - how could these items not be picked up on?

Cheers

Your pictures aren't very clear, but to be honest, if it were me I'd be getting a second opinion at an MB specialist or trusted local garage.
Not saying it's the case here but dealerships have been known to "upsell" on recalls and MOTs.

Brake lines are a known weakness as they're cheap steel, however corrosion occurs at the rear from where they appear from beneath the undertray as all the line forward of there is protected, so it is better to replace just the rear part with Kunifer and join it to the uncorroded forward part of each line. That's what I had to have done to my S204. They are also listing full exhaust replacement along with all 4 brake discs and pads. Second opinion required on that!!

As above, add you approximate location to your profile (I see the invoice is MB Brentford) and someone can recommend a reputable indie close to you, and tell MB to go forth and multiply!

I assume MB Brentford is not the seller, as if it was MB approved Used they would have to carry out the work prior to sale. If the seller is a trader this estimate would give you room to negotiate either the trader to fix it (Sale Of Goods Act) or a big discount on the asking price.

I’m in Uxbridge near Heathrow, however the car is not mine so not sure how I’ll be able to get the seller to take it for a 2nd opinion lol.

The car has full MB history ( 9 of them with the last one in Sept 2023 on 43k miles… it’s now on 59k miles.
A big plus is that it’s had the two Automatic Gearbox services done in 2017 and 2022.

Yeah it’s a private seller up in Milton Keynes area.
Thanks to all for the replies…
