Ponton in silver

I used to have one of these, 1960 model. Strong cars, I drove all over east and central Africa from 1961 to 1967. I traded in for a BMW 2000 NK saloon, fragile car but thats another story

That must have been some adventure!

Top gear African Adventure was my stamping ground from late 1950s. In those days most things worked and roads better maintained but still rough, corrugations, pot holes, rocks etc. My Ponton had factory fit sheet steel underneath (colonial specs) from front to rear bumpers and about 12 grease nipples on the front suspension and 3 more on propshaft and rear supension. Only thing changed were shockabsorbers and bump stops.

What happened to the car? Did you replace it with another Merc while there?

I did a trade for BMW 2000 NK 4 door saloon. Fragile car but very fast in its day.
