Pop Hang Exhaust Conviction

Never understand why people want to burn expensive fuel in their exhaust rather than the engine.

I can understand it failing the MOT due to the cat delete...and there is a 72 db limit on new cars...which most cars with sport exhaust (like an E63 or Giulia Quad cant pass with the valves open anyway).....but they is no test limit on the car for the MOT.....the tester can fail it if he "feels its too loud".....but that's it......there is no noise test done.
But yes pop and bang remaps should be punishable by death......it just sounds stupid. Even the stock popping you get on some cars is overkill on the street.

And yet they are still selling it on their website, albeit with the rider
Please note this software is designed for motorsport use only. You will not pass a UK emissions test or police road side check with this software installed on the vehicle.

I bet there are more than a few forum members with a pop and bang map....who will be brave enough to say. You don't need to remove the cat to have one...so many will be perfectly ok......in the eyes of the traffic police at least.....just maybe not the taste police!

Wonder how that will go with the BMW MPPSK , basically a cat back straight through system (when valves are open) with a remap to up the power and comes complete with option code 2LD which sounds like a machine gun when you lift off the accelerator @ 5K revs , all from the main dealers so warranty safe and MOT compliant.

6am cold starts sound great , just as my neighbours , as they regularly show their appreciation by waving through their blinds - well i think they are waving.

When the cold starts stop making me smile i know i am no longer an "enthusiast" so may as well give up and buy an EV , got to love that cold start "hum".

I guess the difference is that the Power & Sound Kit is tested and homologated under EU regs. rather than being an uncertificated mod.
I remember fitting the M Performance exhaust system to my E91. Bought from Germany, it arrived complete with about a dozen pages of EU and TUV test reports and certificates including noise figures cold and warm.

Good. I don't mind a bit of popping on the overrun with a fruity exhaust but I always think they sound broken when they purposely pop & bang because of a map.

I have some.

Not aftermarket remaps though; they’re completely standard and (artificially) “engineered” by the factory to subtly snap, crackle and pop on the overrun when in Race mode. I drive them in Comfort mode.

I don’t think other people would be so annoyed or frustrated by drivers with pops and bangs maps if they didn’t drive everywhere like they were trying to stamp on a rat in a phone box.

The constant on/off application of the accelerator, not only means that there a constant awful din it also means that for a good portion of the time they’re accelerating too hard for the conditions.

That's the problem, right there. I don't mind a loud exhaust, even a stupidly loud exhaust, provided the car is driven sensibly, but particularly the pops and bangs type seem to be often driven by knobs who take every opportunity to annoy everybody else (except presumably like-minded knobs...) by driving like a, well, knob...
