Are you sure there isn’t a power outlet in the boot?

Hi

As above. first look and see if there is a 12v Cigarette lighter point in the boot. Failing that!! you should try and buy (Halfords sell them) a hard-wire dash cam kit. Ignore that, if you already have that kit for your camera. This will have a 'piggy back blade fuse adapter' (Maplins or Halfords sell the adapters on their own). Once you have this you can go into the 'Rear SAM' and find a switched live fuse, and piggy back off that. No mess, no soldering or crimping and it is safe and tidy.

For Dash Cams please be aware that many of these are 'noisy' and will cause interference (sometimes audible) in the car, depending on:

1) Which fuse/circuit you tap into.
2) Use of 'Ferric Beads' that come in hard wire kits or from Maplins)
3) Some camera's use 3vdc and require a specific hardwire kit, that includes a stepper.

Finally. Remember which circuit you tap into and what it does. Then when some days later, when you have forgotten all about wiring in your camera you get strange gremlins manifesting inside the car? You can move to another circuit/fuse, to see if that fixes the gremlin(s). Avoid any fuses that mention anything to do with, or are known to drive, any ECU functions.

Thanks for info Brucemillar already got a dash cam and just ordered some piggyback connectors and a hard wire kit for it.Just one question regarding the rear SAM what is it and any idea where it is?

The rear sam is the rear ‘signal acquisition module’ in simple terms it controls everything electric in the back end of your vehicle, for example rear number plate lamps.

It’ll be behind the boot carpet, not sure which side, someone else should be able to advise.

The rear SAM carries some blade fuses & relays and is a handy spot to piggy back onto (if you can) If you have a 'user manual' for the car? it should document the location under 'Fuses' but historically Mercedes position it on the LHS as you look into the rear of the car (I bet you It is now on the RHS). Just check again that have no rear ciggie lighter in the boot (LHS) under a flap of carpet or trim? I do not know your car, but MB often mount in the boot/luggage compartment.

It is on the right.:D
Just lift up the storage compartment (the one housing the black Poundland storage box!)

deffo no power point in the saloon will use the advice from you good guys and fit a PowerPoint somewhere in boot

My 205 2016 estate has a 12v socket must be the estate model only maybe ?
