From memory I think Quote me happy are brokers using Lloyds underwriters, not used them though.

I was shocked this year to be quoted £270 from Aviva for myself and wife age 54 with full NCB on our 2014 SL500, looks like premiums dropped this year or insurers have fallen in love with V8 4.7l twin turbos. Maybe can get the premiums down next year by moving to a V12 :-).

Quote me Happy are owned by Aviva. They bettered my Aviva renewal quote last year by about £40. No doubt it will rise at renewal time.
I had one problem with them. I received a letter, months after the policy start date, saying my car wasn't on the insurance data base, MID, which meant the police could pull me over etc.
Quote me Happy did not appear to notify MID but they did within a few days of my email to them.
It will be worthwhile checking the MID.

Pretty safe with Aviva, go for it!

Aviva quoted me £187 for myself and wife with 2 years no claims and £500 excess on a 2004 SL500, I was surprised how cheap it was.

PLAY!!

Take another 50 quid off it and watch what happens:

So, My insurance for my Jeep/Vito/and C Class all fall in the same month August. First in was my Van @ £356, I was about to shave it by 50 quid when I spotted an error in their renewal (Go Skippy) I told them this and straight away, it was slashed to 300. But that wasn't the end of it.. I went on line to one of the more obscure search engines and "Admiral" win to £285..

Next, came the car - With Adrian S Flux 885 at renewal, queried them about the increase when others were reducing prices..back came a good will gesture of 100 pound reduction, went on line same website, £665... told Flux the quote, also told them about Go Skippy quote, showed them it. BEST PRICE (Managers Discount ha ha) 485! And we were about to pay the first thinking it was bettered :eek::eek::eek:

The Jeep Was a No Brainer.. £226 down £100..didn't worry about that one as it remapped so it stayed the same.

All are fully comp/ voluntary excess 150/Windscreen cover/ Legal Expenses/Key Cove - replacement and all are with bonafide insurers no shady dealers..:thumb:

My old girl costs £300 (The delights of living in London I guess) via hastings(ChrsKnot Broker) It was £360 but I sent them a screen grab from comparethemarket and they price matched it.

I should add this was with 2 declared mods, exhaust and uprated alloy wheels and tyres. The excess was compulsory and I don't buy legal expenses any more since finding out about the free cover from https://www.freemotorlegal.co.uk

Insurance is a funny purchase.

Nearly every post on every thread is around how much it costs, very rarely about the quality.

It's a very annoying saying and very much states the obvious but the quality of your insurance cover becomes evident when you need to make a claim.

I can predict a thread for the future where a member is whining that he's having a nightmare with their cheap insurer because they won't pay out on a claim that they think should be paid because 'they all pay out for that don't they'?

Aviva, LV, DirectLine are all defaqto 5* insurance companies hence why I was so impressed with the SL quote at £187.

100% Agree with you there..

But then until it happens Insurers deserve what they get as not everyone is a "bump for money brigade"

My mate split from his intended.. she was a policewoman and a black belt in Taekwondo and used it very violently .. anyway he'd had enough of the beatings and the fights, and declared he was off. Got a new flat the other side of the city well away. Had an Irmscher UR Quattro one of a very rare breed. Parked it in a lockup and lovingly cared for it.. except he came home one day and the car was trashed beyond recognition panels dented paint on the leather etc.. wheels broke it was a real mess.. heartbreaking actually.. but he thought it was OK to get quotes etc, took it to a Specialist, top notch bodyshop. £13k it was going to cost and that was just an estimate.. "Oh.. Go Ahead" he told them, "Insurers will settle.." No they didn't, despite being 1 of only 14 on the planet it had an Irmscher badge on the dash and UR Quattros don't have this as stock. He claimed he explained this and other differences at the time of inception and they accepted it along with photographic evidence.. but it wasn't to be.. car was written off, and no pay out.

Claims are not a simple measurable commodity.

I'm not convinced from our own claim experiences, the stories I hear from others, and some of the threads on here over the years that the cost of insurance has any bearing on the quality of service that you receive in claims handling from your own policy.

100% Agree with you there..

Is the anecdote that followed about (a) cheaper insurers vs expensive insurers (b) insurers in general (c) perils of specialist car insurance ?

And I'm intrigued .....

Was it the martial arts (ex) wife who paid unwanted attention to the car?
Who wrote it off? The insurers or the owner.

Insurers publish data regarding the percentage of claims which succeed.

That isn't about the quality though.

We've never had a claim rejected - but we have had hassle along the way.

So as an example - we had one claim that the insurer initially tried to reject and fob us off - which we shamed them into pursuing - and won. It took 18 months. So that was a successful claim. But at what cost in terms of time and effort and stress to us?

One problem with evaluating this is that even the big names may subcontract out aspects of the claims handling. Who they subcontract to may change. So a customer claiming one year may deal with a different organisation on a claim in another year.

I can't decide whether you are agreeing with my initial post or not but there doesn't seem to be much in it either way.

I think they do it cheaper as everything is supposed to be handled electronically. They couldn't deal with an alteration my daughter wanted to make so she had to call them and they charge £25 for that. She's as savvy as anyone but they wouldn't waive it.

Most of our family has car, house and travel insurance with LV=. I find them very sensible if I need to speak to them.

We do have a non-fault write off claim going through with them at the moment. The only thing I would say is that there's a fine line between efficiency and being steam-rollered! We knew the decision was marginal but would have liked a bit more discussuion than an answerphone message saying "we've written your car off and a cheque's in the post, we'll collect the courtesy car on Monday" - especially as two days before the repairer had said they were looking to repair it.

Speaking from our own experiences we have always sourced the very cheapist possible policy on house/motor insurance and on the few occasions we’ve made a claim always received great service.

Have we simply been lucky or is the fact that the companies we’ve used are compelled to provide a good service by the big comparison websites?
