CLK320 CDi Sport (AMG kit)
Hi all,

I can't find a lot of info about these on here (did use search).

Does anyone run one at all who could tell me their experiences?

Due to change of health I'm having to give up on ideas of having coupes but still want to stick with MB. Currently running CLK320CDi Sport but finding it increasingly more difficult to get in and out of so looking at something a little higher (means moving to 4 doors in reality).

An R class passed us the other day (may have been RL which I presume means LWB?) and made me look twice.

I'm thinking that an ML may be too high but I do love the look of the CLS but suspect may be as low as the CLK (which would be a shame as I think they look great).

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Rob

The R-Class shares many many parts with the ML, and the only real major differences are the ride height and the seat layouts.

Having a CLS and CLK they are similar heights. The CLK (as you will know) is awkward to get the doors open and in/out in a car park, a lot easier in the CLS. For added height you would need a R-class or ML if we are talking second hand and not one of the new MB GLK or similar. My neighbour had a R-class and it was very spacious it seemed to fall in between a CLK and M class in access height and not being overly tall. I actually like them but they seem to split peoples opinions that's for sure... some may say a bit of a 4WD raised people carrier. The R320 CDI will be a lot more thirsty on fuel compared to your CLK320 CDI. Hope this helps.

The R is heavy and 4WD ... as mentioned it's basically an ML underneath. My in-laws had an R350 Long for quite a few years and had very few problems. I was a passenger in it a fair bit and it seemed pretty good.

Have a look at the W245 B Class, a bit taller than the saloon but not quite as high as a 4x4

Thanks for your comments thus far.

Going to look at CLS and ML today (no R class locally at all). If it comes to it being just a matter of the door width than I'd love the CLS over the ML (which I suspect will be too tall) as love the design and a lot of folk on here give them a good review.

MPG not overly an issue as will be 2nd car.

I have a feeling the R Class is "Marmite" car. Prices for private sales seem very reasonable.

Thanks again...

If mpg isn't an issue then you want an R63 ;) :D

Think purchase cost may be a bit over budget lol.

Going to have to discount CLS - too low
ML (no side steps) - better than thought it would be so is a contender.

Dealer also showed me 2 S classes one usual length and the other LWB.

The LWB was stunning with every conceivable extra you could ever need or want including electric rear seats, cool/warm option on seating and double glazing....gawd knows how much that was when new?? 90K??? Overkill for what I need but bloomin awesome all the same.

Think may go for ML if he can find me the right spec...

Depending on engine/spec the S-Class new could of bin £150k, LWB diesel typically £60-80K new.
