hi everybody - newbie here with a problem
frown.gif

R129 1994 older style roof controller

working through the Pcb and found x2 diodes that seem to be dead (reading both ends when meter set on continuity

there are no numbers on the 2 orange diodes -searched everywhere i can to
find their values (even contacted suppliers) but cannot get the values of the diodes (orange) I have ordered a pack of various values ,but need help as I dont want to damage the board (roof works/roll bar works but no windows (replaced the relays)

any help would be greatly appreciated as pulling my hair out

Hi,

Can see the diodes you mention. Are there any coloured bands on them? Also, you may have a reading of continuity on there as it may well be finding a circuit through the reverse side of the board at that particular point. If that makes sense. So it may appear that they are faulty when really they're not.

Hi

many thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated

I managed to get new diodes fitted - but no success unfortunately

so gone back to plan A which is to find out how to bypass the windows in the controller

the roof works fine ,the roll bar works fine and its the 94 model that does not have the
windows auto drop function.

so I will try to find out how I can do this with a couple of relays - any ideas ?

I can't tell from the photo but what made you think they are diodes. Diodes don't have values they simply have a current rating. Resistors have values so could they be resistors ? When the old ones were removed, did you check them for resistance.

Diodes

Hi cheers for reply

not that technical so have decided to bypass the controller and wire in relays for the windows ( tape up the limit switches on the windows as they are
not auto drop anyway ) top and roll bar work fine on their own anyway - that way dont risk damaging the board in the controller with my limited knowledge
I will hide the new relays behind dash out of sight.

will post up the result after the weekend - I dont want to buy another controller as the one I did buy was £400 + and was worse than mine
thats ebay for you

thanks again for posting

cheers Alan in Durham

Hi, No problem. Do you have a wiring diagram at all?

I'd have thought if the tracks on the board are ok, then any decent pcb SMD/THT repair company should be able to rework it for you.

I have the controller diagrams but not a specific one showing the window switching if that makes sense

i have a diagram for the two relays i bought just figuring where best to get a live from as there only seem to be 4 negative wires at the
window motor wire block on doors

Alan

Hi Spikey the tracks are pretty bad -see pic attached - all works except roof - its easier now to just wire windows
off the board rather than risk buying another controller (i did buy one but had more problems than the one I have)

its far cheaper than paying another £400 - 500 for a used one

Yes makes sense. Is the aim to wire the relays off the existing actuator switch? So open close in a sense? I'm not sure it will be as straightforward as that. Are you able to establish, from the drawing, which are the motor out, switch and power in? only you'll obviously need to switch over the polarity to change the direction if that makes sense, which is what that controller was doing I suspect. Would you be willing to ship the controller to someone for them to look at it? Might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi

the aim is to run new wires from the window motors to two relays and a new live to feed them - then wire the relays into
the window switches on the centre console - i am leaving the window down limit switches as they are (they are not the auto drop windows)
so will need to drop both windows before operating the roof - the roll bar works fine as it is.

I know its the long way round but will take less time than playing with the conroller for hours

will post up if successful :)

Al

from the pic they look like surface mount 4148's its a very common signal diode, u'd need to pull one leg and measure again to be sure they are not across something like a relay contact ;-)

Thanks for info but almost done wiring as my last post above -not technical enough to get too far into diodes etc went the long way
round - nearly there will post up when done in case helps anyone in the future

many thanks Alan
