R230 interior trim options?

My SL55 came with carbon fibre trim when I bought it and i had assumed that it was a factory option - is that likely to be the case? Was it a factory option?

To my knowledge , it's either wood or brushed aluminum look

Yeah I’m thinking the same. Some of it has lifted which got me wondering.

Probably wrapped. I had an M5 where the PO did the same. Took that sh*t off as soon as money changed hands.

No, it’s definitely CF. The piece on the ashtray has lifted completely so I’ll remove it and post what’s underneath....

Put your VIN into one of the online decoders and it will tell you what trim was installed by the factory.

You can see it has lifted near the centre arm rest. And the ashtray cover had come off completely.

Doesn't look genuine to me, I dont believe MB fitted carbon lookalike to the R230 SL Have you looked up your VIN?

I’ve tried some research and no, it doesn’t appear to have been a factory option. So the question is when was it added? Perhaps when new.. The car does have a special order paint, and quite an extensive list of options.

Has it been laid over the original aluminium finish? I also don’t know how easy it would be to remove and reinstate the aluminium. I like the aluminium with black interiors but don’t want to dig myself deeper into an expensive hole - the CF just needs some minor TLC.

The CF on the ashtray has come off completely so I may see if that will clean up back to the original finish.

It’s also got 19” wheels and I don’t know if they were added later. I might write to the previous owners to see if I can get some more info on the history.
