Hi there
I had a problem develop with my car yesterday. I pulled up to turn right at a junction and the car cut out and wouldn't start again despite turning over freely. It had started fine in the morning and had driven normally all day so everything was nice and warm.
Eventually it started again and so I think there was no fuel getting through to the cylinders for some reason.
When I think about it the car stopped on the garage forecourt a few weeks ago(I haven't had it very long), but I assumed I had run out of diesel. Aftermuch churning it started again and then drove normally.
I don't run it with much diesel in but yesterday when it stopped there was 3 gallons in it.
It is a bit stressful to drive as I now do not know when it is going to happen again.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks
Rob

That sounds expensive? Is there anyway of testing it?
Many thanks

I've just replaced the crank position sensor on my Mum's W211. The sensor will cost about 90 pounds from the dealer. But that was a petrol E240.
Don't know if it's the same sort of price for the diesel engines.

Can change it yourself if you are reasonably handy?

Do you have access to a good indy? They might be able to diagnose properly for you. Where are you based?

As others have said probably cps(crank position sensor)thats faulty, get it checked by a good independant garage with star diagnostics to be sure.

Hi all
Thanks for the help. I went into a MB dealer yesterday and they said 1 hours labour at £80 plus the cost of the sensor which he thought about £70-80 so that didn't seem too bad to me. They said it was a common problem on cars that age! I am off to a local indy(NW London) with a star diagnostic to be sure.
I'll let you know how I get on. It isn't very pleasant driving it knowing it could stop at any time.
Thanks again
Regards Rob

Hi all
I had the car star tested and it showed up a fault code for the CPS not communicating although it did mention the cam sensor too. It is at the garage now having a MB one fitted for £165. I will let you know how the car goes although it hadn't stopped again.
Thanks again for all the help & advice-much appreciated and so fingers crossed now.
Regards Rob
