Rear brake/ disc change 2017 c 200

I'm going to change both my rear pads and discs on my car and learned about deactivating the sensotronic brake control system . My query is, what does this actually do ? Anyone Got an answer to this please ,

I have it , and I can deactivate it .
The question was " what is it actually doing "

I'm pretty sure that SBC wasn't available on the C class. Are you sure it's not the electric handbrake you can hear??

Well I don't know . I bought the pads and discs from my mb dealer and in the box with the pads came a leaflet with a warning to deactivate the SBC . Goggled the and on youtube the tutorial on "how to" popped up like it does . I followed the and hey presto it does just that

1 Key ignition to position 1
2 Turn parking brake off
3 Get trip meter up on dash readout
4 on the steering wheel press both the phone answer button and the ok button for a few seconds,
5 menu will appear with a few options, one of them being a" rear brake pad setting " or words to that effect just follow on screen instructions, on deactivating you'll hear a sound coming from the rear of the car ,
when finished with pads and disc change go back to dashboard and follow instructions to re-engage the brake pad setting .when you'll hear that sound again. Then just go back normal screen

Just done mine, it took me 2hrs, which I didn't think was a bad time and I had a tea break

That makes sense now, that's the procedure for putting the electronic handbrake into service position and nothing to do with sensotronic brake system which your car doesn't have. To answer your initial question, what it does is set the handbrake mechanism to it's fullest "rewound" position so you can change the rear brakes pads, then when you activate it again it winds the motor in again to take into account your new thicker pads.
SBC is a totally different thing and never on the C class, the leaflet you had with your pads was wrong. Hope this helps with your initial question.

Now we know what it does , and that explains the whirring noise from the rear, thanks for clearing that up.
I must admit it had me thinking I wouldn't be able to do the job until I youtubed it,
