Did you notice both new AMG cars are call Mercedes-AMG now??

Old = Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
New = Mercedes-AMG GT (I know its a different car - but kind of the replacement)

Old = Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
New = Mercedes-AMG C63

Can we see them break off so us "AMG" owners can have our own dealerships like Lexus/Toyota?

Mmmm the Benz family aren't too impressed IIRC, I think this has been brewing for a while UIVMM.

Your own dealers? Of course you can, if you are happy to pay another 50% on the car's price!

They are just growing the AMG brands prominence so they can sell 'AMG line' base models or whatever they are called nowadays.

It's understandable Toyota separating the brands as they are totally different (including body shells), one being prestige, unlike M-B where all products are considered prestige. Another spin off of the separation is brand enhancement of Lexus, having said that I never heard a fellow Lexus owner complain that the dealership was primarily a Toyota one. Still, one can assume it was a good marketing decision by Toyota/Lexus. I can't imagine M-B or BMW for that matter setting up dealerships solely for AMG or ///M products especially as both seem to be abusing these badges for good old marketing strategies.

You could see it working the other way - as they have separated the 'Smart' brand and in the same way that BMW have done for the 'Mini'.

I'm sure there is one ///M only dealership in the east somewhere I think there was an AMG only too in China but as above I can't see them breaking up because of marketing using the badges the bump up sales.

They have a new type face on the badges and AMG logo new, looks eBay special :(

I keep seeing C220 coupes with only an AMG badge and model badge on the rear. At first I thought it was vain owners removing the model but I think they are being supplied like that. The definition of AMG seems to be moving to sporty looking with red pipeing....

Many Lexus and Toyota DO share body shells.... only in the UK/Europe we are very picky about it.
In Japan they were all Toyotas for many years.

LS400 was Toyota Celsior etc.

No, non AMG comes with the AMG badge on the rear, they must be owners adding them afterwards?

Yes in A-Class there is SE, Sport, AMG Sport, Engineered by AMG and "full" AMG!

The rest just seem to have "AMG Line" and "full" AMG alongside SE and Sport.

What happened to L, LX, GL, GLS and Ghia?? :D

Badge on the left, model on the right - Mercedes is after Brabus, who while producing a handful of inspiring supercars, shifts gazillion of cosmetic and power upgrades to everyone with a Mercedes car, AMG or not. Now tightly involved with Smart and integrated with official Mercedes dealers by offering 3 years warranty on their products, Brabus is eating a lot of what AMG could potentially have. If this turns out to be correct, we will see more AMG models coming to the market and even more AMG products/lines for Mercedes cars.

Cant say I agree with that, bar the Diesel 'chips' they offer, Brabus all use exisiting AMGs.

Brabus overall turnover/sales are a drop in the Ocean compared to AMG.

I'm not sure what you mean by "use existing AMGs". A donor car? I was referring to their famous V12 conversions which were not [always] based on AMG models. Rocket is based on a CLS500, for example.

Modern bi-turbo engines are rebored, turbos upgraded. Not much of AMG touch is left in the end, if any.

Drop in the ocean or not but there's no other aftermarket tuninig company that is so heavily involved in Mercedes business, other than Brabus. Phones4U only made a £100M a year and were squashed by the multinational corporations seeking to get their hands on every penny they can.

Yes, but where do the V12 engines orignally come from before being reworked? AMG...!

Look at all of Brabus's products, they all have the AMG brakes, trim, suspension of the AMG version of the model in question. as you say, they are a tuning company, not a manufacture.

The main point im trying to make was in response to your quote:

Brabus is eating a lot of what AMG could potentially have.

The volume Brabus shift is tiny compared to AMGs 30,000+ per year.

This is not correct. Brabus 6.3L V12TT engine is based on 5.5L M275 Mercedes block.

Where? And yes, they are a Germany recognised and registered car manufacturer.

3 years back Brabus turnover was 250M Euros. How big is the AMG's? Brabus may not shift large volumes of cars but their supercars rarely start below 1/2M.

It's all speculation of course but it is a plausible scenario none the less.

Yes, well aware of that. But that's the Japanese market. And not just Europe but the U.S. as well. After all Lexus was launched in the U.S. iirc.

Yes, which is the same engine/block AMG use!
