Fiat/Chrysler [ headquartered in the Netherlands if I am not mistaken] are proposing a merger with Renault- notice the absence of mention of Nissan here  - which would make them no 3 in the world after VAG then Toyota. Rumoured necessary to achieve investment in EV and autonomous technology they have admitted that it would result in a "degree of rationalisation" of manufacturing facilities were it come about. The French government still own 15% of Renault!

1 Roots group (Hillman, Humber etc) 2 Mercedes Benz, 3 Fiat
Is the the new tie up with Renault and Fiat?
Before WW2 they had an assembly plant in London.

Is there anyone that Chrysler hasn't merged with and imparted the kiss of death. MB were well shot of them.

This is in contrast to OPEL VAUXHALL who were sold by GM to Peugeot/ Citroen PSA in 2017. Peugeot agrees deal to buy Vauxhall
I supect this proposed deal may be related to the recent resignation of Carlos Ghosen and the rift with NISSAN. Whether this comes off of course is another matter, but we may only now be hearing about negotiations that have been going on for some time already.

Since Fiat bought Chrysler, they've invested very little into the brand. Charger, Challenger, 300C are all basically 10+ year old platforms, and the Jeep Cherokee and RAM trucks are not much newer. This leads me into thinking that Fiat is trying to dump the brand by selling Jeep and RAM as separate entities. Similar to what BMW did with Rover and Land Rover.

The Jeep Renegade is based on the Fiat 500X and both are built in the same Fiat factory in Turin. I am not sure if this makes the Renegade a better car than its stalemates made in Toledo, Ohio.
