The cable has broken on my son's Mercedes Vito van (2012 - W639). Fortunately it has broken at the nipple that should go into the bonnet release handle (pull), so we have a work-around to open the bonnet using a pair of pliers.
I can get access to both ends of the cable which is not very long, but it disappears under the large fuse box, so I am after some guidance as to the actual process of fitting a replacement cable.
There is a rubber gland through the bulkhead close to where the bonnet release handle is and I can just about get to that. My hope is that if I un-clip the cable under the bonnet and push the rubber gland from the van through the bulkhead I should be able to pull the cable into the bonnet area. Then if I connect the new cable to the broken end of the old cable it looks like it should be possible to pull the new cable through to the bonnet area. Then simply connect each end and re-engage the clips.
So the question is simply to ask if this is the correct process as I cannot see (even with a mirror) under the fuse box so I am guessing about what might work. Thanks for any help or advice.

Hi Did you manage to fit the cable? Can I also ask how did you manage to open the bonnet?
Thanks

I replaced the cable on my 2013 Vito a few weeks ago (OEM Mercedes was just under £20)
Pretty easy to replace, old cable needs to be unclipped in engine bay, 2 small clips one at back towards bulkhead and one at front just below fusebox. The cable needs to be removed from inside and not the engine bay.
New cable is fed through from inside then clipped into the clips in engine bay once its been fed through to bonnet latch.
