A routine scan with my iCarsoft i980 pulled this code but gave no details. My friend Google says it is an issue with component Y27/9 (Left EGR positioner). So I removed the egr valve which was a little bit stuck in its housing but once out looked remarkably clean. I removed the plastic end cap and there was not much in the way of any carbon debris in the cap or on the mechanicals at all. There seemed to be no sign of the mechanism sticking. Nonetheless I gave everything a through clean with egr cleaner and checked the wiring for damage and used contact cleaner on the connectors before reassembling everything.

The upshot is that the code is still present and cannot be cleared. I have no check engine light and the engine appears to be running fine. I am also sure that when I scanned the engine last year there was no such code showing. So my thoughts are that the solenoid actuator may have died. Is there an easy way to test it? If the valve is permanently closed I guess that maybe why it was actually quite clean. Also in this situation should the engine run ok with no CEL?

Any suggestions welcome.

Further to this I have now updated the software/firmware on my i980 to the latest versions (BTW under the latest version of Windows 10 I found I had to disable my virus checker before this would work). I now get a code 2511-000 which is still not in the iCarsoft database and is also unknown by Google as far as I can see. Anyone else ever seen this code?

Given the car continues to run well I am now inclined to ignore it as a spurious code until I can get another readout from a different tool or STAR.

One thing I might do is pull the plastic cover off the EGR and see if I can see the valve opening and closing when I rev the engine.
Has anybody ever done this and can they share what I might expect to see?

So I ran a 400ml bottle of "FORTE DIESEL TURBO CLEANER & EGR VALVE TREATMENT" in about 40 litres of diesel through the system and low and behold noticed a small but at the same time very definite improvement in performance. On reading the codes for the engine there are no longer any present - result! So I can only assume the cleaner worked its magic either on the turbo or some part of EGR valve I couldn't clean. I will have to watch and see if a code comes back but suspect if might as I now do mostly town driving without too many long runs.

Sadly the 2511 fault code has reappeared and at times the car does feel a little sluggish but otherwise OK with no engine light on. I have been using "super diesel" from time to time and have now put some more turbo cleaner but I fear further investigation is going to be needed.

Does anybody know if ultimately resolving a 2511 code (with no other fault codes present) usually means a new EGR valve?
