In a couple of weeks I am going on a 3 week road trip to Croatia and Italy in the E63 and the plan is to sleep in the car where possible, I've got a nice self inflating bed for the back. So I'm bringing a 20L fridge/freezer, an 80w food heater/cooker thing and an 80w water boiler that all run off the cigarette lighter sockets. I'm wondering if I'm going to have trouble with excessive power consumption from the cig lighter sockets. Does anyone know if they are individually fused or if the current is FET controlled? I'm going to bring some spare fuses but would rather it not come to that.

Cheers guys

I can’t answer your question but I would make sure that you take jump start pack with you. If the fuses don’t trip then the battery might flatten.

Perhaps something like this would be a good idea. I’m just reaching this or something similar with a greater capacity to keep on standby.

Enjoy your trip.

I love my S212 but not so much that I want to sleep in it.
We stay in buildings with a proper bed, toilet, shower, restaurant etc:
They are called hotels or B&B's

As above, battery management will be the key.
To give you some idea, your 80w appliances will be drawing around 7 amps each when running, plus your fridge , which I guess would be running constantly in a hot car; say another 5 amps.
Assuming you have a 95Ah battery, if you ran all three appliances constantly, that's roughly 5 hours of run time before your battery is flat.

Also, an 80W cooker and an 80W water heater are pretty weedy. Your kitchen equivalents are over 2000W. You'll be spending a long time waiting for your cup of tea in the morning.

I’ll be running the engine most of the time when using the accessories but I’m bringing a 1500a jump pack just to be safe. Its going to be many hours of driving each day so the freezer should be able to stay pretty cool. And yes I have low expectations from the cooker and boiler I’m not going to be solely relying on just those to get by, just thought they might come in handy. Next time I’d probably look into some sort of leisure battery.
