I had the use of a new S63 today (Don't ask!), so it would be rude of me not to report my findings. This is one quick car! With a 0-60 in the 4 sec. region there is no doubt about the performance. The engine sounds like a Nascar stocker and the exhust note is tuned to be very audible. Even with 2 tonnes of limo to haul around you are never lacking for power, in fact, if the roads are not totally dry the traction control is working overtime.
The ABC roll control is impressive, keeping the car very flat during cornering but does not do the ride any favours.
So would I swap for my S320 CDI? Well no. Leaving apart any cost implications, the car is a suedo limo with a wild animal under the bonnet and not such a cohesive package as the refined diesel.
When you factor in double list price and half the fuel consumption, the CDI looks even more attactive.
No, if I want to get there quicker, I'll take the bike (0-60 under 3secs) and for most of my motoring needs I still have not driven a more complete car than my S320
