I have a laptop with an SD card slot and a few films saved to it and a TV with an SD card slot.

I can view photos which have been saved to SD card from the laptop on the TV but can I save a film to the SD card and pop it into the TV slot and watch it?

Hope this makes sense, it's the Mrs asking really and she told me what to say!

What movie formats does your TV/DVD player support?

I have one that plays Xvids and DIVx's and I can watch movies on a memory stick but if your hardware only supports DVD's then you'll struggle.

I'm not sure, I'll have to find out. It's a new telly, Panasonic Viera with an SD socket at the front and a PC socket at the back. I suppose we could just buy a lead to link the laptop up but may be a bit tricky when it's on the kitchen wall.

A bit more Info my Panasonic 22" in the bedroom has SD & USB inputs and will support Xvid & DivX formats. To get the films on the card you simply download them onto it just as you would an mp3 file, loads available on t'internet ;)

you may need to convert them to DIVX though - easy with the free (2 week trial) converter from divx.com

Back in the day...

Panny SD slots were only used to play pack "stills" and record/play from the internal tuner - not possible to playback external video files, whatever the format.

As per the title this was the way with older plasmas, not sure about the latest batch of Panasonics?

My New 22" Panasonic plays Divx through the SD or USB inputs and is actually advertised as doing so, will check the model number for you

Probably the most suitable reply to this is RTFM :D

Didn't know you worked for Sony Ericsson customer services :D

Lewyboy - post the model number and we can have a look at the spec on the Panasonic website.

Thanks,

It's a Panasonic TH-37PX80BA.

I've looked at the website but all that tekky jibber jabber doesn't mean a lot to me.

Bad news

Thanks,

I've looked at the website but all that tekky jibber jabber doesn't mean a lot to me.

Checked it out - as suspected the SD slot is ONLY for still images - page 53 of the manual for spec.

I had a look around the site, couldn't find any of the TVs with video capable SD card playback, I wonder if flanaia1's set is a non-UK model?

Mike

Cheers Mike,

Back to the drawing board then.

I suppose I could always use the PC cable.

Thats Quite possible as it was an e bay special, great deal though. Will check out the model number when I get home currently In Switzerland.

I download films in divx & Xvid format onto memory sticks or SD cards and it plays them fine.
