Got me thinking recently, when I bought my car I though Mercedes only had one silver and that was Brilliant Silver Metallic 744.

I then realised that some cars looked slightly different especially on petrol forecourts where some seemed to glow.

This is Iridium Silver 775

which is my personal favourite. There are three other silvers as far as I know, Tellurite/ium Silver 762,

Cubanite Silver 723

& Palladium silver which is a little obscure and as such is left out of the poll.

I am stymied as to why boring Brilliant silver is easily the most popular of the silvers and would be interested to see what you all think.

Please vote now.

For me it's car dependant. C class (W203) would be cubanite. A/B/ E class in brilliant. S class in brilliant or iridium. CLK / SL in Tellurite, CL / CLS iridium.

However. R and ML in silver look odd, would go darker. E's are good (it's Ebeneezer Goode...) in tealite . New shape Cs work well in flat colours. 3 door As look nice in red or white.

Ebeneezer Goode :D , I like it.

Agreed, also not all silvers carry over to each model range. My SLK came in Iridium and the other two available were Cubanite and Tellurite, Brilliant was not on the list. I cant remember what silver my A Class is, something like Polar or Star but again, Brilliant was not an option.

I voted Iridium btw.

Portzy.

You still work on them though Ian.

Stick to your principles and ban 'dull chrome' from the workshop if you feel so strongly

Isn't there a 'smoke silver' as well?

A guy in our village has a scratched silver.......

744 has been dropped from the current range. tellur looks strange in certain lights, its almost like anything else, some shapes do,some do not.

Same with houses, women, dogs and cats.

Cubanite Silver works well with the mushroom light brown (I don't know..) leather in mine (and the mud after a weekend in Devon):p , whereas straight silver doesn't, so I know mine looks better in Cubanite

Smoke Silver

Smoke silver was one of the colour options on the 190 Cosworth 16v-2.5 together with Brilliant silver ( replaced by Astral Silver), Blue-black and Almandine ( metallic red). quite a "goldie" silver --- yellowish tint. not the best colour for a Cosworth IMHO so quite rare. Perhaps should add it was available on other models in the range at the time.

My E270 was Cubanite Silver and I never really liked it, it always looked a bit to beige for my taste.

Cubanite for me please. IMHO looks best on a C class.
See my little piece of heaven below......
