SL Electrics Nightmare

About a month ago my car had been standing about a week when i went to use it, it had zero power, not even enough for the interior light to come on. So its been left like that for about a month as i haven't had time to take it to the merc garage.

So today i was going to take it to an auto electrician 15 miles away to get the alternator output tested, connected the booster to start it, which it did, but as i pulled away it just cut out. Boosted it again and took it to tyre sevices round the corner for them to test if the battery was taking charge (which they couldn't do)......Then the booster ran out of juice so we jumped the car from a new battery, but the muppet who put the jump leads on crossed the terminals. So we put them on the right way and the car started no probs.....BUT

The engine was running, and with the drivers door open the ABS light was on. Then I shut the door and just about every light on the cluster was flashing rapidly, plus the rev counter was not working.

So to put it mildly i'm a little worried of what the outcome of this might be. I'm going the have to get it transported to the merc garage for fear of something happening during the 10 mile drive.

So any suggestions as to what is going on with the dash lights? If it has cut out will that be the alternator or the battery that's goosed. Ive left the car for two months before and it still had a strong battery.

One last thing is when it was running for the last month or so, a significant whining noise could be heard when pulling hard up through the rev range from 30-70mph which led me to think its the alternator.

Thanks....got finger cramp now :(
