Quick question peeps. A friend has the above car on a 62 plate. She tells me car wont start, speedo, dials and dash lights go a bit haywire when ignition turned on and wont turn over engine. I suspect the battery to be honest. Don't think she has run it for a couple of weeks and then it only goes to the shops and back. Anyway now she is stuck and no garage is interested in starting it. Now this car has the aux battery as well as far as I know. Could it be a cause as well or just the main battery.
Cheers Jim

Get the main battery on charge overnight.
This will likely cure the problem.
Alternatively - Get a pair of jump leads and connect them (correct polarity !!) run the engine of the second vehicle for a couple of minutes.
This will probably get the car started when you turn the key.
However, the battery will still be in a low state of charge for some time.
A full re-charge is required.

Has she got roadside assistance of any sort ?
Could well be the battery as the first frosts like to savage old batteries that were on their last legs .

Cheers johnsco, yes, its going to have to be a jump start. So the aux battery doesn't matter then?

Jump-start to the main battery.
That's the power that's needed to start the engine.
As said above - The first spell of cold weather finishes off a number of batteries that are on the way out.

As above, and suggest that she takes out breakdown cover!

Is the car garaged where power is available, if so a decent overnight charge will help a lot as will putting it on a maintenance charger (battery conditioner) whenever the car is garaged. Also worth knowing is that Halfords will test the battery and alternator FOC - but will possibly try to sell you a new battery and fitting at the same time! You may have to book for the battery test.

Halfords ...... :(
