I have a b180 diesel and I'm wondering if it's supposed to have sound proofing on the underside of the bonnet as it's has no sign of any ever thanks

I don't know it's a 2010 b180 sport I don't know how to find out what model it is
How did you know what you were buying then?🤔

Look at the vehicles V5 document.

The VIN number will start with a letter then the 3 digits of the model designation.

Thanks just seen retro fit over two hundred quid so will give it a miss take care and learn something every day
You can buy sheets of sound insulation on Amazon or Ebay, you could probably insulate the whole bonnet for £30, if you take your time you could make it look as if it was meant to be there rather than stick random panels of insulation up that look like an amateur did it.

I see you are a relatively new member and in Chichester not far from me in Bognor Regis - Welcome.
You are not the only one not to know a model number, I bet most people look at the back end of a car to get an idea of what car they are looking at.
I know somebody locally considering an almost new C350 from a dealer. The dealers paper work I saw yesterday only referred to it as a C350 and I bet if they go ahead they will only think of it as a C350.

Indeed. There are some arrogant and cocky members on here who think that everyone should know every intricate detail of their car. Just ignore them and enjoy your new car. If you want to add additional soundproofing, then do it. It's your car and you should do to it whatever you want.

Welcome to the forum and ignore the inevitable idiots!

Get yourself some Silent Coat or similar- the thickest one you can find - cut to shape and apply under the bonnet and maybe go for some heat retardant closed cell foam if its a diesel and you want a bit more sound deadening. Shouldn’t cost more that 30-40 quid and a couple of hours. Did wonders on my defender.

and...it took me a while to work out what model mine is and even now I’m not so sure🤔

On this model number thing. Mine is a W205 but on the V5 VIN it states W204.
When I questioned that with the DVLA and this forum some years ago I was told 204 is correct, 205 is an extension of that.
Interestingly I bought tyres recently and the company, without any prompting from me, quoted it as a 205.
Model numbers it seems are not everything.

Best thing about this is , the bloke knows nothing about mercs , "Use a garage." is his usual help , he's nothing more than a forum sniper. Best put on ignore and left there tbh.
