E270 CDI W211 2004
Hello

I have an intermittent SRS warning light come on. This appears to be when I have someone sat in the passenger seat (child seat for 7yr old especially).

I have read some posts on this issue and it appears to be fairly common.

I just wanted some feedback if possible of the best (and least expensive) fix for this. Done a bit of research on bypass gizmos that wire into the system but not sure which is the best course of action.

Also, if there is anything else I need to check and the best course of action.

Thanks in advance

Sam

Probably a faulty sensor on the passenger seat - several threads on here.

Please don't fit a bypass kit...

With those symptoms, 90% broken wire where it goes inside seat... 9% brittling sensor intself

Broken wire is easy to solder but dismantling seat cover needs some wrestling.

Broken sensor is changed at same effort then, but if you happen to have sensor integrated in seat cushions, its pretty expensive.

Sensor can be coded off by SDS, then passenger air bag deploys always on crash (which I wouldn trust in case of chinese emulators).

Hi mersum1es and greenmanslk - many thanks for your advice - much appreciated.

My gut feeling was not to go down the bypass/emulator route. Thanks for clarifying that.

I will rule out the broken wire in the first instance and then start to think about coding off.

Can i ask what SDS is? is this a company that provides that service?

bit of an amateur here...!!

thanks
Sam

Star Diagnose System, one and only true device for mercedes... :)

Note that you dealer won't do safety system removal codings, you need to find an indy who can. It may still be dangerous later for people who want put a MB child seat with deactivation transponers to front seat, and don't understand how AKSE system indicates it precense... because system (probably - not tested) won't detect seat.

thanks to all for you responses - much appreciated
Sam
