Hi,
C350e
My mechanical starter motor has seized and my car is using the electric starter motor powered by the HV battery.
It seems to be running fine with no other issues, I know I willl need to replace the starter motor which isn’t an issue.
Just curious if there are any issues just using the electric starter miter for the time being
Thanks

Mind boggles ...starter motor not working,, but it is off another battery ?
It’s a hybrid so it uses the hybrid battery to start the car, using the electric starter motor which is usually only used to stop start the car at traffic lights etc

Yea it was news to me too. Clever how the car knows one is faulty so switches to the other

I don't think it would actually have two starter motors. All modern petrol/diesel MBs have stop/start, and none of those are fitted with two starter motors in case one fails.

It's more feasible IMHO that the electric drive motor on a hybrid can somehow be used to turn the engine over?

As an aside how do you know the starter is seized?

Have a read through this thread in case it helps:

That's how Lexus hybrids work, they don't have the traditional starter motor but use one of the generator/ drive motors to spin up the petrol engine

Some hybrids have Integrated Starter Alternators apparently

And in 'mild' hybrids (which the C350e isn't) the starter/alternator often acts as the electric drive motor as well.
