hello everybody.after some research i found that the cause of tramlining are stiff tires...is 215/45/17 or 225/45/17 stiffier?I suppose that the 215/45/17 will cause more tramlining.
Isn,t it?
thanks

Generally lower profile, wider, stiffer tyres increase tendancy to tramline. I don't think the difference between the two will be noticeable to be honest.

Also depends on load rating - some tyres are available in normal and XL versions, the XL is the "high load" tyre and will have a stiffer sidewall.

Tramlining is not just about compliance in the sidewall but also the contact patch. Given the same profile you'll see greater tramlining with the wider tyre.

ok thnks for the reply.because i am planning to put either a 225 or 215 on my w124.
i think that i'll go for 215 as it will provide less tramlines.but is 7.5 rim good on 215?or the rim will curb easily?
thanks

215/45/17 would be fine on wheels between 7.0 and 8.5 inches wide

225/45/17 would be fine on wheels between 7.5 and 9.0 inches wide

According to the ideal rim-width calculator on Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 3 of 4

On that basis 215mm tyres would be generous on a 7.5 inch wheel
