Long story short but my wife drives over to see me in Spain with the kids in our car.

Some scrote breaks in and takes the ABS, TC unit/controller/pump from under the bonnet (cuts through the brake lines and unscrews the brackets...takes the brackets!).

Insurance company is taking the approach that this is a likely write-off. Views anyone?

Car is a 2001 BMW Alpina D10 Biturbo Touring. I paid £14k this summer.

Maybe they are factoring in a recovery to the UK in their repair estimate rather than a local repair? At £14K for a rare 2001 plate car I hope you have an agreed value policy? If no other under bonnet units were damaged the cost of repair is not going be anything like £14k since the components are going to be pretty standard bosch/teves units?

I doubt the Alpina unit is anything more than a stock BMW item - you could pick up a used one for a few hundred quid i'd imagine.

Insurance company obviously need a kicking - they probably valueing the car as a 5 series estate so 4 grand in todays climate !

BBA Reman offer what appears a fantastic service on this kind of product, I'm in the process of replacing mine on my 5 series

May I ask what ballpark price we are looking at fitted as it will be good to talk to the insurers armed with information?

id be surprised if they uprated the cars standard 530d pump.
